Synth Explorer, a modern software for the Prophet-6 and OB-6

Hi everyone,

I'd like to share Synth Explorer, a browser-based editor and librarian I built for my beloved Prophet-6 and OB-6.

It started as a small app designed to convert and transfer programs I liked between the two synths, and eventually grew into a full featured software with support for designing, organizing, and exploring presets.

Everything runs in the browser with Web MIDI, so there's nothing to install. You can use Chromium-based browsers or Firefox with the Jazz MIDI extension.

I'd love any feedback from Prophet-6 and OB-6 owners.

Just wanted to follow up and add some screenshots of the UI here, and also add that V2 of Synth Explorer has been released.

In V2 any sound imported into the shared library is converted into supported formats for all synths. So you can import sounds from your synths directly, or from a sysex file with multiple presets for any of the supported hardware. Any presets that are imported into the library are automatically converted to be used across all synths.

I spent a lot of time refining the workflow and making the UX feel as immediate and intuitive as the hardware itself.

Everything runs directly through Web MIDI in Chrome, so there’s nothing to install. You can try it for free at:

Could you clarify whether Synth Explorer preserves all Prophet-6 and OB-6-specific parameters when transferring patches between the two synths?
