Prophet 08 Bricked

Prophet 08 Bricked

My prophet 08 was having a few issues with some keys not playing. I had opened up the synth to clean out the pads, and in doing so I had left the synth unplugged for a couple of days. When I put the synth back together the keys were playing fine when I loaded a basic patch. The factory patches were no longer in the synth, so I uploaded the original patches. The problem I was having was that the names were jumbled and the patches would not play correctly as I scrolled through them. I do have soundtowers plugin for the prophet 08, and I was able to load single patches through it with success. Just to clarify, I was on OS 2.3. I thought that if I reinstalled the OS (2.3) that maybe it would fix the patch issue I was having. I used Bome SendSX to upload the OS and the timer counted down successfully. The synth then got stuck in Writing Now, and was stuck there for about 2 hours as I waited. I eventually turned off the synth and now it is completely bricked. Nothing shows up on the screen and the synth does absolutely nothing. I was wondering what my options would be to fix the synth. I did write to Sequential to see what my options are with them. Any help would greatly be appreciated.

This was two months ago, so the results may already be in, but I'll write it down anyway.

1. Adjusting the LCD contrast setting by touch. A common problem with the Prophet '08 is that during OS updates or accidental resets of global settings, the LCD contrast can become extremely low, resulting in only the backlight being on and the text becoming invisible.

Turn on the power and wait a few seconds for it to boot up.
Press the Global button once.
Press the +/Yes button (or, depending on the model, the plus button in the upper right) 11 times. (This will take you to the contrast settings page.)
Try turning the PARAM 1 knob (or VALUE knob) to the left.

2. Could the power supply (AC adapter) be faulty? Replacing the power adapter with a new one might help.
AC adapters can also break. Purchase a new adapter with the same capacity as the one you're currently using, but with a positive (+) terminal in the center, and replace it. I think the Sequential's support team will be able to tell you if you contact them.

3. I think there will be a cost involved, but why not try contacting the manufacturer directly to inquire about repairs Shipping costs may be higher. You will also need time for repairs.

4. Looking for a used one is a practical option.

5. Considering the REV2 (8Voice) is also an option. It seems different from the original 08, but it's still a similar synth.

other,
**If you are going to revert to a previous OS, you *must* downgrade the Voice OS first.**
