Filter knob usable range

Filter knob usable range

New to the forum—hi everyone!

I just got a new Pro 3 SE. Overall it's working well, but I did notice one weird issue, and I'm wondering whether it's normal. When I turn the filter knob (in "Jump" mode), the value shown on the screen reaches zero a little to the right of 9 o'clock, and turning it to the left of that has no effect. If I set the pot mode to "Relative," nothing happens when I move the knob within that range. I tried this with nothing connected to USB or MIDI, so it's not a MIDI loop.

This doesn't really affect the functionality of the synth, but it does mean that about 1/5 of the travel range of the knob is useless. Has anyone else encountered this? Is there some way to recalibrate the pot?

There is a calibrate option in the settings, not sure if it does what you suggest though. Try this, initialise a patch, you can do this with key combo I never remember or there’s initialise patch in the settings menu. Select saw wave, fully turn the filter between clockwise and anti-clockwise. Also, try the different catch up settings. I’ll try my unit later to see if it mirrors what you reported above but from memory, I don’t think it’s the case.

Thanks your reply! By "catch up settings," do you mean the different "pot modes," like jump and passthru? I did try all three of these, and I still have the same issue with the lower 1/5 of the pot having no effect no matter how it's set.

I ran both of the calibration procedures in the menu, and they didn't help. It seems like I need to do something similar to the wheel calibration procedure, but for the filter pot.

Hi there! There are dead bands at the lowest and highest physical ranges of the high-resolution cutoff pot. If, while on the basic program, you can use the pot to drop OTA filter cutoff to 0 and effectively cut off all sound, then your pot is functioning as expected. Apologies for any confusion.

Thanks! It's reassuring to hear that it's normal. It is annoying because the dead band is much wider than I've experienced on other synths and covers a significant portion of the knob's travel. But I am able to close and open the filters fully, so it's not really a functional problem.

It's a great synth overall. Though I do have to resist the temptation to crank up the distortion on everything, ha ha!
