P5/10 Users Do You Favor the REV1/2 Filter Brighter Or The Rev3 Filter Darker

Do you have a preference of one filter over the other? Do you use one filter more often?

I can not hear the difference

I can not hear the difference
Right I see. I listened carefully and could hear a slight difference between the two. The Rev3
Filter is darker and seems to me to have less high frequencies where the Rev1/2 filter is brighter.I turned on the filter in the PolyMod Section and switched between the two different filter types. It seems to me there is a subtle difference between the two filters. Maybe it’s more apparent when you use different  amounts of polymod .

Filter type impacts cutoff, resonance and the filter envelope response (flat/ linear vs curvy/ exponential). Whether or not it is subtle depends on how much you open and modulate the filter.

Good Points  I’ve had my P10 Rev4 for about two weeks. I’m experimenting with the PolyMod.
It seems pretty deep and has a lot of sonic potential and possibilities.

It depends on the sound. For brass-type sounds, I tend to go with 3; for pads, 1/2. But not always, it depends on.

I See Makes Sense

I use either, always depending on the mood of the moment, otherwise known as whatever sounds best for what I'm working on. It's wonderful having the two different filters. My first P5 was a rev 2, but in those days, I was recording to 4-track cassette. My wife has a rev 3, which I used for a couple years until the rev 4 came out. There's no way for me to compare my teenage rev 2 and the rev 3 I now have access to.

I have placed the rev 3 and rev 4 side by side, in true synth geek fashion, and while the differences are interesting, they're both Prophet 5s and sound as such!

That’s great that you have different prophet 5s.

What did you use a Tascam?  Tried to explain one of these to a newer person the other day.  So distant is the memory.  I couldn't remember if I recorded drums on 2 tracks, then bounced them with bass to 2 tracks live, then had 2 tracks left....Probably I used to record singing after a 2 guitar bass  + drums mix or 1 guitar, 1 bass, all 4 isolated stereo drums, live to cd, making (live burning) an entire cd of different vocal takes.  Much easier nowadays but some of the importance of being accurate is lost without the physical medium of tape and digital discs.

I never even thought about buying an analog synth in my earlier days (90s/00s).  I picked up a few keyboards and organs and things but the idea of a synth just never occurred to me.  Had this massive heavy organ I got for free.  Wurlitzer I think.  Also a late model Rhodes electric piano.  I never would have said "I want a Prophet 5".  I don't think I had ever even heard of it until maybe 2017?
The 3 is for really rocking sounds.  The 1/2 is for more artistic sounds.

I had - still have, actually - a Yamaha MT-44. It had Dolby C, and was probably one of the quietest 4-track cassette machines around. I wasn't tracking drums - always drum machine back then. Meanwhile, I'd caught the synth bug at age 13 and was obsessed from the start. The Prophet 5 was my dream! Still is, and I have two!

Ok I didn't hear of that one before the Yamaha 4 track from 1983.

Yah you wanna use that 1/2 3 button on everything.  Just go ahead and push it on every sound you make and see what it sounds like.  The vintage too.  I can't list every thing you must try on every sound.  Resonance, maybe.   The other things you always should do with the Prophet are like, well, just check it out with an oscilloscope.  It makes pretty waveforms.
