Prophet-6 Mod Wheel and Pitch Wheel Acting Swapped

Prophet-6 Mod Wheel and Pitch Wheel Acting Swapped

I recently encountered a strange issue with my Sequential Prophet-6 where the mod wheel and pitch bend wheel appear to behave as if they are swapped. Moving the pitch wheel produces modulation instead of pitch bend, while the mod wheel affects pitch in a way that makes the controls feel reversed.

To diagnose the problem, I tested the synth completely standalone, disconnecting all USB and MIDI connections to rule out external MIDI remapping from a DAW or controller setup. The issue still occurred, so it wasn’t caused by software or MIDI routing.

I then checked whether the behaviour was patch-specific by switching to Manual mode, ensuring the synth reflected only the current panel settings rather than stored modulation routings. The problem persisted.

Next, I performed a global settings reset through the Prophet-6 global menu and power-cycled the instrument afterward. This resets system parameters without affecting saved patches, but the behaviour remained unchanged.

I also reinstalled the latest firmware from Sequential to rule out a firmware glitch, but the issue continued even after the reinstall.

At this point I have ruled out:

External MIDI routing or controller remapping

Patch-specific modulation assignments

Corrupted global settings

Firmware issues (after reinstalling)

Since the problem occurs even when the instrument is running on its own, the remaining possibilities appear to be a calibration issue with the wheels or a hardware fault in the controller assembly.

If anyone has experienced something similar or has additional troubleshooting steps to suggest, I’d be very interested to hear them. It’s possible I’m overlooking something simple, so any ideas or advice would be appreciated.

A curious issue! Contacting Sequential directly via email is probably the thing to try next.
