Would like to start a thread for the Noobs to polychaining synths to clarify what is needed to get the TEO 10 up and running.
Also would like input from veterans of the polychaining tribe to chip in with bits of wisdom or trickery.
So first off the PDF instructions in TEO-5 Beta OS 1.2.0.15 Addendum do work. Although sometimes you have to reset global several times on both units. Most of the time only once will suffice. However I find some details are missing and hope this tutorial will cover those details and be of help.
The first step is to make sure the MIDI DIN cables are hooked up properly. This means one end of the midi cable goes in the Leader TEO 5 unit's MIDI OUT port . The other end of the cable of the same MIDI DIN cable goes in the second Follower Teo 5 unit's MIDI IN port. Polychain will not work unless the cables are setup correctly.
If tuning is needed in your environment before playing or recording then turn on both units for 20-30mins and let them equilibrate. Then use global button to access the tuning function and tune both units separately. Before starting the polychain setup process turn off BOTH units. Then turn on ONLY the follower unit. This is a key step. Once the follower unit is on you can turn on the leader unit. I connect my midi keyboard via USB to the leader unit to control the unit since I have 2 X desktop TEO 5 units. The instructions will work for the keyboard versions or desktop units.
The next step is step 3 in the manual where you start by clicking Global button (lights up red) and selecting number 30. Reset Globals in the Global menu by turning the knob labeled Select til you get to number 30. You access all functions in the Global menu by turning the knob Select and change values in the menu by turning the knob Value to the right of Select.
The rest of the steps are straight forward and require following the directions in the TEO-5 Beta OS 1.2.0.15 Addendum PDF.
When finished the 10 steps in the instructions you should be able to exit the Global menu on the Follower unit and on the top of the screen in the middle it should show POLYCHAIN !
