Not sending CC's and NRPN's correctly in Ableton.

Not sending CC's and NRPN's correctly in Ableton.

Hey guys,

I recently purchase an OB-6 keyboard and it doesn't seem to be sending my CC's or NRPN's correctly when I go to automate the parameters. For instance, NPRN value 32 (Noise Level) doesn't even show in the Ableton clip. However. when I automate it I can hear the automation. Another example, would be if I try to record cutoff automation it records to CC 38 and then if I try to record reso automation it records on CC 38 as well, therefore overwriting the cutoff automation. Also, some numbers like 6, 98, 99 always have some basic automation on them that I never recorded.

In order to fix the problem I updated the firmware, re-calibrated, and reset global settings and nothing helped. I've tried Param Xmit and Param Rcv on CC's and NPRNs.

Is anyone else experiencing this?

I would suggest using NRPN Gen 2. This likely isn't anything to do with the synth itself, but with how Ableton handles NRPN messages. NRPN's are strings of four CC messages, which explains why you are seeing repeat CC's for various parameters.

There are some great videos on Youtube doing deep dives into NRPN's that you might find interesting.

Otherwise, NRPN Gen 2 is the sweet shortcut :)

Some other DAW's handle NRPN's more fluently (Logic comes to mind).

Good luck and have fun with your new synth!

Thanks for the explanation, that makes a lot of sense
I didn’t realize NRPNs were handled as multiple CC messages in Ableton, so that explains the duplicate behavior I was seeing. I’ll definitely give NRPN Gen 2 a try and check out some of those deep-dive videos as well.

Appreciate the link and the tip—this helps a lot. Cheers, and thanks again!
