Hi all, I’m new to the prophet xl.

Hi all, I’m new to the prophet xl. What’s the best way to play the keyboard into maschine mk3? By plug in, or by selecting the keyboard in the input output settings? I seem to be having problems with both. When I use the plug in it is out of tune, and when I use input midi settings it causes a midi feedback loop and if I turn off the local control then I can’t play the keyboard or get sound. Sometimes it even changes the sound of my filter cutoff and resonance without hitting knobs too and I power cycle it and it will come back for a bit and then start acting funky again. I take out the usb and it’s fine. Any help would be fantastic, thank you

Hello and welcome. The PX is an amazing machine!

I am not familiar with the Maschine, but have taken a quick look at it, and essentially for the purposes of helping you, I think we can keep it at the level of the fact that it has both an audio interface and a USB or DIN MIDI interface.

Taking it a step at a time. What are you seeking to do? Are you looking to record PX Audio into the Maschine line inputs or PX USB or DIN MIDI into the Maschine? Or both?

Given you have multiple issues, I would work through them one at a time, probably starting with the tuning.

In terms of Audio being out of tune, the PX uses digital oscillators, so it is very stable by design. Is it a specific patch or all patches? If all patches, have you checked the PX Global settings Coarse and Fine tune options to ensure they are set to zero? If a specific patch, then check for any Course or Fine oscillator detuning which is excessive, or whether or not the oscillator slop setting is too excessive. That can make the PX sound really out of tune if too high!

Or is there some tuning reference in the Maschine that needs adjusting? The PX is a pretty standard A=440Hz, so is there a similar tuning reference in Maschine to check? Are you playing the PX against a sample in Maschine where it is not being played at the right sample rate? E.g. A 44.1KHz sample being played at 48KHz? Or does the sample have some other frequency tuning offset?

In terms of your MIDI issues, that does indeed sound like a MIDI feedback loop, so is there a setting in the Maschine to stop what I would call "MIDI Loopback" or "MIDI Echo" during recording, and it only spits out MIDI when you are playing back?

In terms of the local mode problem, I have just tested mine and it works as expected. Perhaps you can let us know what your global settings are?

Hello newbie, I have this idea, if I'm wrong, please correct me.
First of all, you should turn off one of the two MIDI connections (use only USB or 5-pin cable). In Maschine, turn Prophet XL on in MIDI Input, turn it off in Output to avoid loops. In Prophet, turn off Local Control when using USB. This will fix the problem of out of tune and random filter jumping.
