Pitch and mod wheels not working

Pitch and mod wheels not working
« on: October 05, 2025, 02:36:38 AM »
In the Fourm I purchased a week ago, there was a recurring problem with the wheels. They had no effect, or the pitch wheel only worked a little bit when turned downwards. Calibration of the wheels fixed this, and I also performed Global Reset. But when the synth was turned off and back on again, the wheels stopped working and had to be calibrated again. The synth was replaced in the store yesterday. But I have the exact same problem in the new Fourm! I will now update the Keys OS to 1.0.0.2. from the 1.0.0.1 in my unit and hope that this does away with the wheel problem which would be impossible to live with.

Update - I installed the latest Keys OS (1.0.0.2). The problem persists. Wheels stop working when the synth is turned off and on again so they need to be calibrated. When I reported this problem to the seller, they tested another Fourm in the shop and found the same problem. They then ordered yet another Fourm for me from their sister store in Sweden (I'm in Finland) and it seemed to be working first. But unfortunately the problem is still there.

Sounds frustrating! Hopefully, the OS update fixes it — repeated calibration issues usually point to a firmware bug rather than hardware.GeoGuessr Free

The bug is still there in the latest OS. It seems it happens when Alt Scales (Globals, page 28) have been used. Well, those are essential for me. The tech support hasn't answered me for a while. If this is not quickly fixed, I suppose I'll have to return the synth - as the same bug has already been seen in three new Fourms, I assume it's not a a hardware malfunction.

Sorry to hear about the wheel issue! Hopefully your ticket will be answered soon - we don't work on weekends.
I can suggest that you try calibrating the wheels. I suspect this will resolve the issue. Wheel calibration is found in the Global menu and when you select it the display will walk you through the process.

As I wrote, I have done the calibration time and again. The problem is not that it won't fix the issue but that it has to be done again every time the synth is turned on.

I think it's a software bug since it happens on two devices. Updating to 1.0.0.2 is a good move — hopefully it will fix the wheel calibration bug. Let me know if you fix it!

This appears to be a bug if you have an alternate tuning selected and you power cycle the synth. Our software team is aware of the bug and we will work to address it in a forthcoming OS update - stay tuned! Apologies for any inconvenience in the meantime.

I'm glad that the cause of the problem was found out and that the bug will be fixed in a future OS. Meanwhile, for those who use alternative tunings (Global p. 28: Alt Scale) - before you turn the synth off, return the scale to #1: Equal Temperament. Otherwise the wheels won't work when the synth is turned on again, and need to be re-calibrated.

Does the Fourm let you set the alternate scale on a per patch basis or just globally?  If so, does setting it at the patch level still affect the wheels?  That might serve as a workaround until the bug fix is released.

Excellent idea, thank you so much! That is indeed possible, from the Param menu. I tested, and even when a program with an alternative tuning saved with it is on when the synth is turned off, the wheels will be functional when it's turned back on.

Yes, good idea. There is indeed a possibility to make a tuning program-specific in the Param menu. However, this function does not work! I'll send another bug report to the tech support.

Logged, thank you for pointing this out!

Another thing that's worth checking is whether the issue is patch-specific or happens with every preset. If it's only one or two patches, there may be a hidden modulation or global setting involved that's easy to overlook. Testing with a simple init patch can help narrow it down pretty quickly.

Reconnecting the connector on the main panel is a common troubleshooting method for synthesizers, but are there any issues such as loosening or misalignment? Isn't there a way to check for this during the manufacturing process before shipping? Since the Tactive key is a new model, will such a checking process be introduced and implemented going forward?
