Prophet 10 midi problems and solution

Prophet 10 midi problems and solution

I received my Prophet 10 about a week ago and it’s an amazing synth. Superstable and sublime and stellar quality. I love it both for it looks and sound and it exceeded my expectations. I run it together with an analog stereo delay / modulator Boss DM-101 and its a perfect match.  :)Today I was testing it with midi over usb - I wanted to use it together with Logics arpeggiator. It worked very nice for a while but then midi suddenly stopped. Especially if turning pitch bend wheel at same time as arpeggio was playing. My solution for it was simply to use the din connectors instead of usb and it worked flawlessly. I don’t think there anything wrong with the synth but usb have so many shifting versions .. sometimes the problem is with the power supply / long cables etc. So my advice to someone facing the issue: just change to regular din midi and it will work.

Congrats on grabbing a P5. Greatest synth ever made, according to some!

I stopped using USB for MIDI back when I first got my Prophet 6. Classic DIN for the win!

Noob here re getting my P5 to play the MIDI from Logic Pro X. Sounds like I need to first go back to the DIN cable but more broadly could anyone walk me through their process re setting up the track(s) in Logic and the settings on the P5? I’ve looked online and even asked ChatGPT but I can’t find anything that clearly explains it. Thank you in advance!

I'm using a USB cable to connect to Logic Pro.

I've attached two screen grabs for how I set up my Prophet 10 to Logic Pro.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Not all USB cables are suitable to anything. Different USB cables are different and it seams like some cables (better quality) sometimes are better than other cables for some synths.

Btw did you also adjust your P5R4’s Globals settings? Specifically, the MIDI Channel and Local Ctrl output?

I was fiddling around before you saved me and in case I’ve haven’t reset them properly could you/anyone confirm what these ought to be left as?

Or, are there better settings I should use for this type of MIDI-in recording?

Thank you, guys, for sharing your knowledge!

param Rev = rnr
midi control = on
midi sysx = usb
midi out = usb
local ctrl = off

Thank you for sharing :) Good to know that I hadn’t totally messed it up haha! This has encouraged me to look further into what these settings are.

From looking at the manual and online, the default/preferred for Local Ctrl is ‘On’, unless the P5 is being used as a master keyboard for the DAW.

As yours is set to ‘Off’ does it not affect using the knobs to control the P5’s sounds themselves? Did you specifically set it to ‘Off’ for a reason?

Thank you for your continued insight!

Correct - I am using the P10 as a master keyboard for Logic Pro.  I intentionally set it to Off so when I use a plug-in the Prophet does not sound along with the plug-in

as far as the nrn vs cc - i think cc is the more standard route.  so you can use that too.
