Alternative tunings with CV out, can it track?

Alternative tunings with CV out, can it track?
« on: July 02, 2025, 08:42:29 AM »
I own a Prophet-X, which I love, and I often play it using alternative tunings. I’m currently also interested in the Sequential Pro-3, and I would like to use it with Eurorack oscillators.

My question is: can the CV output of the Pro-3 support alternative tunings? For example, can it control an Eurorack oscillator in sync with the Pro-3’s alternative tunings?

I'll have to double check, but I believe the voltage outputs do not scale to alternate tunings.

That would be really helpful! I asked customer support but no answer from them. I also have a feeling that it doesn't support alternate tunings since "modulation source" in manual refers this as "note number".

I just received e-mail from the support.

"The CV outs on the Pro 3 are technically calibrated to the keybed. Alternate tunings, on the other hand, directly affect the oscillator pitches internally, not the notes from the keybed. So any MIDI or CV sent from the Pro 3 will be sourced from the keybed signals.

This means that alternate tunings will not be carried by the CV note outputs. Apologies for any disappointment this may cause!"

Seems like I gotta go with Tubbutec µTune modules in order this to work.

( or you "just" play it with your Prophet-X or other synths w micro tuning, having set up the same microtunings there )
will be gorgeous anyway!

Compviga received some disappointing news from support regarding their Pro 3 synthesizer. It turns out the CV (Control Voltage) outputs are calibrated to the physical keybed, meaning they don’t transmit the alternate tunings that are applied internally to the oscillators. So, if you send MIDI or CV from the Pro 3, it’s based on the keybed’s standard tuning, not the altered ones. This means Compviga will need to look into using external modules like the Tubbutec µTune to achieve their desired tuning functionality with the CV outputs. A bit of a bummer, but at least they know what the workaround is.
