Tempest Is My Sexy Clock Slave

Hello everyone :)

So, in my early years with my Tempest, syncing Tempest to clock was not always great. Receiving clock was always drifting and unstable... No longer an issue now.

My setup has changed quite a bit and I reconnected my project studio last night with the horrors of memory plaguing my layout design. I broke some rules to not daisy chain more than 3/4 synths but with happy results. I am not even sure if anyone felt this was an issue anymore.

My chain/setup:  Maschine+ (master clock), digitakt (no clock receive/send pattern changes), digitone (no clock receive, receive pattern changes), virus Ti2, Tempest.

Digitakt, Digitone : I program on their sequencers and set clock internally to same as Maschine. They both received SSC messages. Uses auto midi channel 16.

Virus needs clock for LFO's/patches. Uses max midi channels 3-15

Tempest: I prefer to program sequencers on Maschine +,  use Sound Banks A fo4 drums, B for synth (sampled in Maschine+), or if patter is on Tempest, Maschine+ triggers Tempest Bates. Sync to clock is needed since it is the only way for Tempest to react to SSC messages. Uses midi channels 1-2.

Consider at most (which I haven’t done yet) All midi channels are being utilized Plugging up the chain Period When I send Mini clock in this capacity, The Tempest is Rock Solid. I set Maschine+ Clock to 136bpm... The clock passes through the chain (virus heavy channels not max), Tempest displays 139.9 no drift... No problem. Super tight.

I had just figured this out last night after I purchased a master clock for $699... Eeesh.... Because I felt the chain was congesting midi data. I had the digitone, digitakt, and Tempest all slaved to clock. The three tempo would randomly flux +/-. 5bpm.

Once I changed the DT and DN to internal clock but accept SSC messages... Clock was more dependable than santa clause...I tried different midi cables, different masters (Tempest and Digitakt). Tempest smooths out received clock nicely and will show less flux than the Elektron boxes. The culprit are my electron boxes when they try to sync then pass clock thru. Taken them out from receiving clock was magic.

I am trying to cancel my master clock MRCC order... Burgh....

Lucid!

Just a quick note to say that I'm glad you're still out there making music, buddy.

Oh, and I'm relieved to see that the fine single malt hasn't left the studio.  8)

Cheers!

Thanks brother:)

Seeing you and the crew still active here is solid gold!

I still havent made my Double Platinum Greatest Hits albulm Volume 2... Yet... but

As for thr malts... never! 😁

I have tasted the holy grail of single malts. It was a secret unlabelled batch distilled in Scotland I errantly bought thinking it was named Midnight Panty Raid... But in fact was Midnight Pantry Raid!

True story. I had the joy of that bottle for 1 year (cask strength / double cask / 150 bottle run).

Cheers!

Haha... Awesome!

The highlights on my shelf at present are The GlenRothes 18-year and the Lagavulin "Ink Of Legends" 12-year Special Edition (tequila cask!).  I've been soaking both of them for just over a year now.  I'm not typically overly precious about whiskies, but these are definitely to be appreciated in the moment.

The GlenRothes can be replaced at least (albeit at a premium), but The Ink Of Legends is a rare and endangered bird.

Sigh...

Who wants to live forever, right? ;)

Cheers!

Update. ...  It was like going back to basics. The clock chain is fine by USB.... At least it was fun recabling my studio. Everyone should embrace the madness once in a while. I learned somethng out of it.

Anyway, my usb chain is routed through Bomebox. I found out my midi translaters were skanky. Oh well... Less cables now...  BomeBox is STD free... Tempest is clock tight...
