Help with Sample + Patch Management?

I recently purchased a used prophet x which already included some amazing user samples and patches. I was hoping to add some purchased Espen samples, but wanted to backup the patches that already exist on the machine

I inserted a new usb, formatted it, and "dumped all banks" to it -- but when I open up the usb on my computer it's entirely blank. Is this how it appears or were they not transferred properly? I believe this just backs up the patches via sysex and not the samples, right? Is there a way to backup the samples as well?

I've been through the forum and manual and haven't seen this mentioned, but it's 100% possible I missed it entirely.

Unless I'm mistaken, you need to back up the patches via MIDI (5-pin or USB,) they do not save to a flash drive. The drive is only for loading new samples into the machine.
There is no simple way to back up samples already on the synth, other than creating an image of the whole SSD. The SSD has a special QNX operating system on it, so most computers won't even be able to boot it and access the files. Maybe the person you bought it from has the samples backed up?

For those in the future with this same question, here's the response from Sequential:

The samples are stored on the instrument's SSD. They can not be backed up over sysex, as you may imagine. In general, the SSD is safe storage, can be moved between units (as long as the OS versions match exactly), and the drive can be cloned like any other SSD.
 
The dump all banks command creates a sysex file that includes all the program settings, just not the factory and add-on samples.

Essentially, to back up the factory/add-on samples, you just need to remove the SSD and use one of many commerically available cloning devices.
