Need step sequencer advice...

I am starting to dig deeper into understanding my Tempest.  Recently I have been working with the step sequencer.  I notice that on certain sound pads (ex. Snd A11) I am unable to select step 1.  However, for other pads that step will trigger.  It seems random.  Additionally, some of the sound pads have been assigned to Voice Out 1.

Any advice?

I figured it out.  Looks like there is a limit to the number of times a slot can be selected when programming a beat using the step sequencer.  The magic number is 8.
