The Prophet X is Dead again.

Earlier this year my Prophet X had to be repaired for the second time in less than a year from when Sequential sent me replacement parts. Luckily I was able to recover it by replacing the battery and tweaking the power supply.   Now during a recording session the PX suddenly restarted itself and got stuck again. I replaced the battery again and when I restarted it it's completely struggling now. Soon after taking this video the PX now just won't even boot properly at all.  I posted this in some Dave Smith/Sequential groups and unfortunately the responses I got were akin to the following

"After repairing mine with their shipped parts twice, and then sending mine to them four times, they finally decided to just tell me it was magically working fine on their repair bench and sent it back to me with the problem still intact. Cured me of ever giving Sequential my business again.
It's a shame because I'm sure their other products are great, but their decision to just keep my $3500 for this product and leaving me with a paperweight made it impossible for me to trust them going forward."

I seriously hope this isn't the case when I speak to Sequential on Monday. I really don't want to have to do a video about this experience.

Definitely keep us updated on your progress. The PX is my main gigging instrument. I only ever had one problem with mine, in late 2023, when it would occasionally black out and freeze. Sequential sent me a new power supply and all has been well ever since.
There is no other keyboard on the market which lets me load up to 200 GB of samples (I deleted the factory ones) with so many velocity and RR layers. Or at least if there is, certainly none accessible for blind users, as the PX is. However putting my trust in a board that is potentially unstable is a bit scary even though it has been rock solid for me live.

How do you delete/manage the factory samples?

Did you ever get this fixed?

I can't delete them either

Well after a lot of headache and heartache, the Prophet X is now safely back home. I'm not able to test it right away as during it's time away, I dismantled my studio and moved things down to my dad's old studio space. It's a bit cluttered and needs to be set up BUT I'm just happy I know where the PX is.

Per Sequential "There was an odd power issue, so I replaced the power supply and the motherboard. When changing out the motherboard, I noticed that the reset line was inserted wrong, which I don't believe is a big issue, but I'm not actually confident about the outstanding expectancy when plugged incorrectly so I'm unsure what the long-term effects would be, but to be safe, I replaced the motherboard.

I also updated the Main and DPS OS to 2.2.0.0.0, which will help prevent future freezing."

I haven't tested it yet. During it's time away I dismantled my studio and moved it to a different space. Nothing is set up yet but I'm happy I know where my baby is.

I just want to say thank you to the team at Sequential for putting up with me and hearing me bitch about UPS messing up the order (They tried to charge me $160 because of "tariffs", I had to go to the Canadian Border Services with all the proper documentation that Sequential provided me and I knew that Sequential had my back. UPS eventually dropped the bogus charges)

Glad to hear it is wrapped! We often ship USPS to CA to avoid ridiculous brokerage fees but there are weight/size limits. FWIW, the incorrectly plugged reset line won't cause issues long term - it could, however, cause boot issues when not installed correctly.

It's funny it actually wasn't to do with weight or anything at all. They were charging "Tariffs" on the synth based on the value of the overall instrument not on the parts that were installed. UPS refused to drop them until the Canadian border was like "Uhhh....no."

UPS=snakes. Stay away from them.
Prophet 6, Nord Electro, Waldorf Iridium, BARP 2600, Eurorack and altogether too many guitars.

Honestly, not to get political on here but this is exactly what I fear the most with tariffs. Not the tariffs themselves, but companies exploiting the panic around them in order to justify bumping up their prices to ridiculous amounts. In some cases companies inflate costs, knowing they’re heading toward bankruptcy. They leverage bankruptcy insurance or protection (like Chapter 11 in the U.S.) to restructure, shed debt, or exit contracts they no longer want.
