OB-x8 and MPE - global settings for aftertouch and CC74?

OB-x8 and MPE - global settings for aftertouch and CC74?
« on: December 12, 2024, 07:26:47 AM »
Got my OB-X8 updated to the MPE mode and am using it with the Osmose... absolutely glorious. This has been the dream for me for years. It's everything I had hoped!

I'm wondering if there's a way to get a global setting for the aftertouch / CC74 messages, that could override the preset-based assignments. With Osmose, I pretty much always want to have the aftertouch (pressure for Osmose) mapped to Oscillator volume, and cc74 mapped to filter. And then I dial in the OB-x8's "Vol/Balance" knob to get the best balance of sensitivity to pressure, versus the oboard envelope. That feels the most natural to me.

Or perhaps there's a way to bulk edit all the patches to behave this way with the editor?

I'm down to put in the work on every preset to dial it in right... it's just that good! At least for the presets I use most often. Any help would be super appreciated, before I go and try to remap a bunch of presets!

Related: is there a way to overwrite the init patch, so it always has the above assignment as well? I pretty much always wnat to be using the OB-x8 this way, or at least have the option. It's addictive! Can't go back.

Hi, congratulations on the OB-X8! The Osmose is fantastic too!

I only just got an OB-X8 (desktop module) myself - haven't used the editor yet so I can't answer that question unfortunately. A direct email to support would probably be the best way to request new features/functionality for the global setting you want.

Regarding the init patch, there is a option in the Global settings for "Basic Program" which will become your init patch. See page 9 of the manual.

Would you mind me asking how you went about setting up the Osmose and the OB-X8 for MPE?

I have the OB-X8 firmware updated and MPE enabled, and I know about the Velocity and Aftertouch settings in the Page2 that would be used in place of the physical buttons on the keyboard version, but how do you change the Volume Envelope Amount? There's no knob for it and I don't see anything for it in any of the settings.

How do you "have the aftertouch (pressure for Osmose) mapped to Oscillator volume", as you  mentioned ?

I would like to be able to play OB-X8 in the same way the Osmose works with the internal sounds, where I can press a key gently and the further I press, the louder it gets.
