how do I sequence external gear with the PRO 2?

The manual is not entirely clear on this point. I have tried creating a new sequence on track 2 and sending it via midi out 1 / midi channel 3 to a device reading midi channel 3, and nothing happens when I hit play on the sequencer.

If my memory serves me correctly you have to make sure that you give velocity a value for each note to send a signal to trigger the external gear.
