Compare in Write mode

Compare in Write mode
« on: September 25, 2024, 12:10:42 AM »
Hi there,

I am quite embarrassed to ask this as I am sure someone will point me to the manual which I have read many times but will suddenly make perfect sense.

Here is the scenario. I will often start to create a new sound by initializing whilst on whichever Program I am currently on. When it comes time to write, I would like to listen to the Program that is stored in the location that is 1 increment either above or below the current Program. However, I can only seem to increment Bank or Tens, and not Programs. Holding Bank and pressing Tens does not increment the Program by 1 and nor does it decrement when I hold Tens and press Bank. Pressing a program number between (0-9) does nothing.

Appreciate if there is a key sequence I am missing?

Thanks

After pressing “write”, press “global” to enter compare mode. Then just press the patch button of whichever slot you want to audition.

When you’ve found one you want to overwrite, press “global” again to exit compare mode and press the numerical button of the slot you wish to store the patch in to write it.

The problem I’m facing is that after I press global, none of the numerical buttons are responsive. So I am unable to select a patch to audition. I am restricted to only changing banks and tens.

Are you creating a patch in manual mode? Can’t remember off the top of my head whether you need to press “preset” or not after entering “compare” mode, or whether it automatically switches to that mode.

Are you on the latest firmware (found in the pinned thread in the P5/10 section). Though the fact you say “banks” and “tens” sounds like you’re using a Prophet 6 not a Prophet 10 as the latter uses “groups”, “banks” and 8 “programs”.

Still, the procedure is the same:

Press and release “write”;
While “write” is flashing, press and release “global” to enter compare mode;
Press any of the numerical buttons (by itself) to audition that patch.

If you are on the P6, remember that the first 500 patches are factory ones and can’t be overwritten. Can’t recall if that means you can’t audition then in compare mode or not or whether it simply prohibits writing but still allows comparing.

If that doesn’t help, email sequential support as I’m out of ideas.

Thanks Quatschmacher

I am using an OB6 keyboard for this, and no I am not creating a patch in manual mode, but I am creating an initialized patch by pressing Manual + Write.

So I tried it again by doing the following:

* Select patch 704 (This should be a user bank)
* Initialize patch (Manual + Write)
* Press and release Write (starts flashing)
* Press and release Global
* Play some keys and I can hear the original 704 patch
* Attempt to press any of the numerical buttons (0-9) to switch it to another patch, but no numerical buttons respond

So at this point I will reach out to sequential for assistance.

Thanks again

Just closing this off as I realised I was attempting to save to a non user bank  :-X
Thanks for reading and helping!

Apologies for my potentially muddying the waters - it’s the patches 500-999 that are the factory ones, contrary to what I wrote above.

No worries at all. I quite simply should have read the manual... properly :)
