Desktop Split function and midi channels

Desktop Split function and midi channels
« on: September 12, 2024, 02:26:53 PM »
Hi everyone!
I finally pulled the trigger on an OBX8 Desktop...after drooling over it for more than a year! It is so incredibly huge and I'm super happy. I've updated the firmware and learning my way around the unit.

I'm only able to hear one sound (the lower or upper split depending on the midi channel) with the Split feature. I see in the manual that the upper split uses a midi channel that is one greater than the lower Split. Is there a way to assign a channel to each split (so they could be the same channel)? Or will they always be one channel different?

Thanks in advance!
Tommy

I’ll have to yet try it out again after the recent update but here is what the addendum to the manual says:

Quote
Separate Split Lower/Upper MIDI channels are active whenever Split mode is enabled with the Global MIDI Channel set to any channel but All.

So theoretically, this suggests that separate MIDI channels for split would be deactivated by setting Global MIDI channel to All, thus supposedly reverting back to previous firmware behaviour. I’ll check whether this works or not and report back. That was indeed an awesome feature in the previous firmware.

If you set your MIDI SEND att ALL instead a specific channel (such CHANNEL 1) the destination (your OB-X8) will receive all channels simultaneously.

Not only. As a matter of fact, I’ve just tried it out and sending from a master keyboard set to only one channel, when OB is set to receive on All channels, will play both split zones as if they were on the same MIDI channel. That’s great!
