Is anyone using the soundtower VST/Librarian today in 2024?

hey there,

I just recently got a Pro-3 and have seen a lot of past comments on the Soundtower apps/plugins not being super stable/work that well. Is this still the case today?

I have tried the demo version of the librarian and it lets me send and open presets but thats about it :-) Which makes it completely useless to actually see if it works or not fully. It would have been better to just make it work for 30 minutes or something...

Does the VST plugin work ok with Ableton? I see a few free M4L devices for Ableton that can send the NPRN values to the device and they can be automated but I just wanted to see if the VST from soundtower would do that as well as allow me to save and name presets? I think thats one of the worst things about the synth UI is how terrible it is to put in names for presets with menu scrolling. Would be nice to have a random name generator on it like the muse or other synths that seem to use the same microcontroller platform as the Pro-3 for their main OS.

The Soundtower apps/plugins still have mixed reviews, with some users finding them unstable. If you're considering the VST plugin for Ableton, it can work, but it's hit or miss depending on your setup. The free M4L devices might be more reliable for automation and NPRN control. For preset naming, the VST should help, but it’s not perfect—exploring other options might be worthwhile if that’s a key concern.

The VST plugin from SoundTower has had some updates over time, but it still may not be the most seamless or reliable option out there. In Ableton, users have reported varying levels of success with the VST. Some have noted that it works "okay" for sending NRPN values and automating parameters, but others have experienced crashes, especially when using the plugin heavily in their sessions. The issues seem to depend on system specs and the complexity of the projects, so it's kind of hit or miss.

Regarding Soundtower apps and plugins, it is true that many users have encountered stability and performance issues, and some comments still indicate that this situation has not improved much. The demo version of the librarian only allows sending and opening presets, which can feel limiting, and it is reasonable to have more time to test to evaluate the full functionality.

Regarding VST plugins, many people have reported that they can work well with Ableton, but it may also depend on the specific version and configuration of your system. Soundtower VSTs are able to send NPRN values and support automation, but saving and naming presets can still encounter the same troubles as you mentioned. The user interface can be unfriendly at times, and a random name generator would be a nice improvement for users.

In reality, the company that made it has fixed all of the basic bugs. To send and receive information, you need good lines and tools. You might be able to get the VST driver for Ableton to work, but it depends on your setup. Even though Soundtower VSTs can send NPRN values and work with automation, saving and naming presets can still have the issues you described.
