P6 tuning issues

P6 tuning issues
« on: August 26, 2024, 07:35:51 AM »
Just checked my P6 tuning and it's -15. -20. cents off, so to make it play in tune I have to set tuning parameter in Globals to +17.

Unfortunately calibration doesn't do the thing and it stuck at L6 on the display all the time, no matter what I do - reseat voice cards, remove all connectors except power cable etc...

I don't want and possibly can't send it to Sequential. Maybe there's still something I can do about it?

Sounds like a dead voice card. I had that on mine. Try switching the position of the sixth card to another slot (say slot 5) and seeing if you get a failure on L5. If it's dead you need to order a new voice card from Sequential.

Follow the steps in the troubleshooting guide pinned at the top of the P6 subforum. You may need to clear the calibration data and start again, especially if you updated firmware recently.

Tried to swap Voice Cards, and it showed "L5", so probably it's a bad card.

However after reseat it passed the calibration one time till the end. Now the tuning looks like this:

1 voice - -2.8 cents
2 voice - -3.3 cents
3 voice - -1.9 cents
4 voice -  -2.0 cents
5 voice - -3.3 cents
6 voice - -3.8 cents

Still sounds a bit "chorusy".

Do you think it's normal or... ?

I also attached mp3 with some chords played. Do you think it sound good enough or still a bit too "chorusy"?

I should mention that it passed calibration well if I do it right after turning P6 on, before it warms up... after it stuck at L5 (the slot I swapped problematic card with ), so there's a kind of problem with this card for sure... but at the same time, maybe it's just a component which is possible to track and replace. Go figure...

Will continue investigation and really want to avoid replacing card. Hope there's a way to fix this.

Hi there. It's likely that replacing the card is the best resolution for your issue. I recommend reaching out to support@sequential.com. They can get you a new voice card.

Sure, replacing the card is the best way, but there're some circumstances which force me to try repairing the card first.

Strange that it passes calibration if I do it right after turning P6 on, but after 5 minutes (after it warms up ) calibration fail all the time.

I'm in contact with Sequential support and they also find the situation a bit weird.

If anyone had similar behaviour, please share your experience. Wondering what are possible VCO components which could cause such a problem.

I am part of the support team. It's extremely rare that we repair voice cards. If you swap in a card from a different location, then clear calibration and start over, you should be able to tell if the issue is on the voice card itself or if it's the main PCB. If the issue remains with a new card in the socket, then the main board will need to be repaired.

Ah, I see...

We discuss it with Sally from support team since last 3 days, and yes - it's one of the cards which cause problems during calibration.

For a now I was able to get it in tune. Also it's not so easy in my situation to order a new card from Sequential directly, so I would like to try to show the card to my local tech and see if it's possible to do something about it.

I should also say that support was top notch, Sally took a good care of this case : )

However, if someone had an experience with "repairing" a problematic Voice Card, please share your thoughts.
