USB Midi causes Corruption

USB Midi causes Corruption
« on: July 31, 2024, 04:47:35 AM »
So I have recently purchased a Rev2 - my first Sequential - an 8 voice desktop module, now for the most part I prefer using the USB midi as I have for my other synths (Hydra, Syntakt, Kobol Expander) and I've never had a major issue.
On the Rev2 however its been nothing but trouble especially when used with SoundTower.

So when using the software and USB Midi - the Rev2 crashes hard so hard that it doesn't power on, and only a boot loader start up works, and this is a big IF, this only works if you do it right away otherwise, you have to wait 10's of minutes to an hour before starting it up.

For the most part I have the Rev2 running via my Focusrite 4i4 MIDI din ports, and none of this happens when run via the MIDI DIN. This only happens on USB and USB only so far.

Has anybody else here experienced anything similar?

Well it died while running under Ableton and through the 5-pin MIDI connection, and I can't restore it.
Contacted Sequential support as the store has no replacement stock and its beyond the 14 day grace return period.

Just out of interest, are you running the USB via a powered hub? Evidently they can cause issues with some Sequential synths.

Initially it was an external powered hub, but I've been running it through MIDI 5-PIN from my Focusrite 4i4 which is connected directly to the Mac.

I reorganized my synthesizers. Upon reconnecting them, I discovered that my Anker 10-port powered USB hub, which links them to my PC, had malfunctioned. I am uncertain when or how this occurred, since I had disconnected everything prior to shutting down and reorganizing.

Lots of people have had this problem with Rev2 too. I've seen quite a few complaints on the forums about it. It seems to only happen when the software is connected to USB.

It sounds like you're experiencing a frustrating issue with your Rev2 and USB MIDI; it might be worth checking for firmware updates or reaching out to Sequential support for assistance, as others may have faced similar problems.

After reconnecting the devices, I realized that my Anker 10-port powered USB hub, which connects them to my PC, was not functioning properly.
