First, I love Retrosound's channel and he has an amazing synth collection.  But even in his youth I doubt Vince Clark could play Situation with impeccable timing every time, most of what we heard (Yaz, early Depeche, Erasure) was sequenced.

What's fun about these is I'm guessing he records at a lower tempo, then speeds up the video for insta-fast fingers :)  Those wacky Russians :)  Go full screen and watch closely if you don't see it (look both for natural finger movement and subtle light reflections on the wall).

Agreed! Retrosound really has an impressive synth. It's hard to get Vince Clarke to play Situation perfectly live, most of it is sequenced. And the slow-motion and speed-up video sounds great — will check the lighting and fingers!

Is recording at a slower tempo and then speeding up the video to create the impression of fast playing a common technique in instrument performance videos, and does this affect how viewers perceive the actual skills of the artist?
