his rant about the PX in the current video wasn't about being overpriced. he was complaining about how buggy it was. he said when it works, it's fine though. in all fairness, he did buy his PX used, and there's no telling if it was one of the units from the first batch of PXs. like most new synths, the first batch can have all sorts of bugs, and problems. i had a PXL for a few years, and it worked fine. bought a PX a few months back, and it also works fine. both were bought new.

There are certainly a few bugs that Sequential should really fix before they draw the line under this mostly excellent unit
1) Oscillator pitch can be the wrong value when importing
2) Synth will only respond to SYSEX when the MIDI reception channel is set to ALL or CH2 (from memory)

Those are annoying esp the first one, but other than those I would not class it as buggy - or I have not seen others. Maybe we ought to compile a list and then collectively lobby Sequential to fix?
Regards
Derek

Huh, I wonder if he'll give his sample packs away for free now.  ;)

Don't buy this synth. But do buy my sample packs for this synth. Fuzzy marketing.

I commented that on his video, and since then I got a PX and as promised in the comments on the video he gave me a nice discount. He also said that there are more things to come.

Most of his samples are available also as .wav.  I just mention this because of Espen's recent comment of "enjoy it while you can" with regard to the Prophet X (which I'm sure someone will find a way to keep working 40 years from now), be sure to get them in the right format so you can use them forever, as some of them are quite good, he has invested a lot of time.

I have many of his sample packs and sometimes send them into SpectraLayers for harmonic manipulation, then into the 3rd Wave, which is a limited sampler in terms of storage but has amazing filters.  Sometimes the sonic result of that through analog filters is nothing that any of my software samplers can even come close to.  I attribute a lot of that to the circutry of the 3rd Wave but I assume the PX is similar.

There was a great video about how destructive criticism of art is much more popular now than actual art itself. Film Channels like “Everything Wrong With..” or “This Movie Sucks” get a lot more traction than Every Frame A Painting. It’s kind of sad that’s where we are as a species.

Seeing what is going on in the Korg Kronos world, which is also based around a PC-board connected to a hard drive, these synths will not last a long as the old classics. But we will surely have many many wonderful years ahead of us.  :)

I'm curious why that would be, if anyone knows details about the situation with Kronos, ProphetX or any other PC motherboard based synth.  I would think the ubiquity and interchangeability of parts that exists for PC builders would make the prospect of replacing the main components easier than proprietary electronics in older synths (which still often seem to have modern replacement options).
