Tip: Using Osmose synth as an MPE controller for the OB-6

Tip: Using Osmose synth as an MPE controller for the OB-6

I was fiddling around tonight trying to get MPE from the Osmose to work with the OB-6. At first it didn't seem like they were going to play together: only a few notes on the Osmose keyboard made sound come out of the OB-6. Eventually I figured it out, and I'm just posting this here in case anyone else is baffled by this:

I'm using firmware 1.7.4. The OB-6 seems to assign one MIDI channel to each of its 6 voices in MPE mode. So if you're sending all 16 MPE MIDI channels from the Osmose, every note that gets a channel above 6 won't trigger a note on the OB-6. The solution is this:

  • Press the "m" button on the Osmose and go into "ext midi" settings.
  • Under "config" choose "mpe".
  • Under "adjust" use the top left knob to scroll to "mode".
  • Under "mode", adjust "end ch." down from 16 to 6.

With this I have lovely MPE goodness on the OB-6. I've been playing with some big pads and it sounds fantastic.

Thank you for this (and saving me hours of time debugging)
