Workflow query: Recording PRO3 sequencer notes into Ableton

Hi,

I have a noob query regarding recording PRO3 sequenced notes into Ableton.  I have managed to make it work but in a somewhat convoluted way:

1.MIDI CLOCK MODE= OUT 

4 MIDI CLOCK cable out=MIDI1 (ie MIDI UM ONE cable from PRO 3 to my  Mac)

7.MIDI CONTROL ENABLE=OFFI manually set  BPM to equal that in LIVEI set sequencer play MODE to Gate
I then live record into LIVE from pro 3 keyboard.

For playback I change the settings as follows:

1. MIDI CLOCK MODE= IN

7.MIDI CONTROL ENABLE=ON 

I set sequencer play mode to normal

As advised, it works but is there a less convoluted way to do this?eg should LIVE be receiving PRO3 clock instead? Also, can arpeggiator notes be recorded?
