Quick question regarding seq start / stop

hi all,

I cannot find the answer in the manual, but all I want to know is if I have a slave midi device connected.. can I use the play button for a message to be sent to the ext midi gear to start / stop the seq gear externally ?

I have my elektron connected, but I cannot trigger the sequencer at all even though I'm sure it's connected (it's getting the clock for example)

in addition, if the footswitch is plugged in, will that work too?
