I know that there are a lot of videos in YouTube about it, but it was funny for me to recreate this split iconic sound from Van Halen 1984 track.
And yes, there is a bit of chorus and delay, that for me are a part of sound design too. Don't tell me that the sound on 1984 was dry!

There are probably no synth track found on any published song that is unprocessed in one way or another.

I agree, the EFX is a part of the signal chain when designing synth patches.

Yes, true. But I wrote it because in some forum where I posted a pad I did with my OBX8, someone said " yes, but there is a chorus and a delay". And I should say :" And what?!"

VH definitely had a bunch of outboard effects and synth processing on that album.

Thanks. Yes, of course there are no music productions without fx. Anyway I just underlined it, because there are people that start to say " aaaa, but you used fx, so the sound maybe is not so good" and something similar

Agree, the whole signal path is included in a synth timbre as it shapes what hit the ears. The reference of what one hear is mainly from albums where all sounds we refer to always processed in different ways. A pure open oscillator hooked up to an oscilloscope can be inspiring for some but doesn’t tell anyone how a synth sound and behave in a musical context.
