I just learned my OBX8 shipped and is arriving next week. I'm getting excited... Does anyone have any advice for a new OBX8 owner on setting up or getting to know this new synth?
I recommend adjusting these Globals settings:
Globals > Pot Edit Mode: Jump
(by default its set to relative. Most people prefer jump... myself included)Globals > Aftertouch Curve: 4-5
Globals > Velocity Curve: 4-5
You may want to run a Calibration or two as well, depending on tuning in your environment. Let it warm up 30-60 minutes, set master tune knob to centered, and check tuning for Osc 1 / Osc 2... If either of them are way off (more than 3-4 cents) might be good idea to run the Full Calibration routine in Globals... its quick... just a few mins, and will calibrate oscillators, filters, and other parameters. Mine came pretty well calibrated, but it will depend on your environment somewhat... if your unit is in a place with warmer or colder temps or humidity.
There's definitely some unique characteristics this synth has compared to others... I recommend getting acquainted with the three main LPF filter sounds, and check through the Misc menu to see the additional options under the hood... there's some really useful / interesting options in there, that are good to be aware of. Overall, its a mostly knob-per-function synth, so its very intuitive.
