I don't use the aftertouch often, but when I tried it I found it unusable even with the curve 1 setting (less sensitive). It's either not enough modulation or too much. Unless there is something that I missed, perhaps?

I think this is the keyboard(?) [mechanical]
Aftertouch seems to be an off/on thing.

There is not a 'gradient'.   That would cost a fortune, and only happens in the poly-aftertouch keyboards.
(Technically, I get it.)

I don't trust the after-touch "curves".

I think I've just discovered a bug in the main LFO speed. When the Filter Envelope reaches the sustain stage, the LFO speeds up a little, and when it goes into the release stage the LFO returns to its initial speed. The Mod 2 Env-LFO Spd parameter is set to OFF.

Very puzzling.

I forgot to mention that it only happens with more than 4 voices running with the LFO in OB-X/OB-Xa mode. As if the CPU is not fast enough to calculate/maintain the LFO speed whilst calculating the Attack, Decay, and Release stages of the filter envelope with more than four voices running. Maybe it's to emulate the underpowered Z80 CPU of the early machines?

Yet another possible bug this morning. The Aftertouch Amount setting in page 2 does not affect the modulation amount when the Touch knob is set to Mod. Pressing down a key fully down always send the maximum modulation amount even with Aftertouch Amount in page 2 set to zero.

Sorry if someone already mentioned this but can we get MPE please?  Really missing this from my OB-6, i just figured it would something added at some point...

This a blasphemous request.

As an Expressive-E Osmose owner looking for a poly analog synth to pair my Osmose with. The OBX8 desktop almost ticks all the boxes. So I sincerely ask why is MPE or the ability to receive it a "blasphemous request"

It is a useful request and given the hardwired mod matrix, it will be of very limited use. Personally, I can see the appeal of per channel/voice pitch (X) and AT (Z) for filter cut-off and that would be as far as you could go with OB-X8 if it was able to interpret MPE MIDI.

For the rest, synths with a flexible mod matrix (eg Hydrasynth, 3rd Wave) will be a better fit for this special purpose. Unfortunately, the Prophet 12, which also comes with such a mod matrix, would benefit the most from MPE but it is no longer supported. Hopefully, Sequential will one day fill this void.

Quick update: Someone named Sally from Focusrite/Oberheim/Sequential support has replied to me and confirmed the software/firmware bug I’ve mentionned before about the aftertouch not working right for controling the modulation. The software team are working on it. So stay tuned for an eventual upcoming update (no date estimate given).

Like to add a second feature request. Be able to save global tuning per patch. Global tuning is global as it is now and per patch tuning in page 2.

I second this request. I've been experimenting with the alternate tunings and while I love the feel that some of them create while I'm improvising, non-equal temperament is about as application-specific as features get. Ideally, I'd like to be able to have a bank of patches that each utilise an alternate tuning of my choice. This would facilitate experimentation, and do away with the necessity afterwards to return to the Global menu to reset the X8 to 12-tone.
On a related note, I have to commend whoever it was in Sequential that collated and implemented these 64 tuning schemes. It seems like a real labour of love and I for one really appreciate it, because they're fascinating to explore.

It still blows my mind that a synth this expensive doesn’t have clock divisions on it’s arpeggiator.

Not sure if was here but the falling saw LFO (square+s/h) and rising saw LFO (sine+square) has to be swapped to correspond to their symbols on the panel

Hmm? They do exactly what is shown on the silkscreening when modulating something on my OB-X8.

The 2.0 update is amazing and I thank you the Sequential team for giving us all they have. Two things I'd still love to see are the ability to sync LFO speed via MIDI clock or even the ability to lock match it with the arp clock? Also the subdivisions are great, can this feature somehow be implemented to the analg clock in?

My hopeful addition to the list: I like envelope modulation of PWM.  A simple upgrade could be a Page 2 option to route the ‘portamento envelope’ to PWM 1/2/both.

Discovered a bug when adjusting the Aftertouch Amount in Page two with the Right Encoder. When decreasing it passed 115 or so, it just completely freezes and plays no sound. Many lights turn off and is nonreactive. I turn it off, then on, everything comes back, but then when I go to adjust the aftertouch again, it does it persistently.
This is quite the bother.
Any ideas?
Can I get a little bit of cinnamon in the middle of a little bit of it?

Nevermind...updated to 2.0.01...all is good and gravy. Thank you, Oberheim Team and Forum!!!

Thank you for posting this, I can confirm I have a similar problem and was wondering if I getting crazy or what.
Actually the change is rather drastic and easy to hear, it's not a minor thing.

I created a patch, which is using the Square LFO to modulate the pitch in 7ths intervals e.g. and when you play several notes you hear different notes play at the different speeds.

Please Sequential have a look at this!

Also we are really waiting for this next firmware patch, which you already addressed (especially the Clock Sync for LFO).
The last one is already several months ago and I was hoping for a litte Xmas present! :)

Still not finding these in firmware 2, so pretty please with all the sugar and in order of importance.  Some of the first couple of these are re-iterations of requests still not done yet that I strongly agree with will be a huge hit for most of us.

- more range on the transpose.  +2 when you hit either down or up a second time.
- also save transpose per-preset instead of just globally (pardon me if this is already done, but couldn't find it)

- the more traditional 2nd option for HOLD in Page 2, like almost everyone has asked for.

- OSC1 and OSC2 Buttons held down control OSC level instead of frequency.

- transmit NRPN and MIDI CC at the same time.  My PolyBrute 12 does this so NRPN goes to their Connect editor and librarian and the CC can still be mapped to other devices and soft synths.

- the screen temporarily shows all parameter values when turning a knob, then goes back to the previous screen mode after 1-2 seconds.  Make it selectable if you think this is bad for some.

- Hold UNISON and choose program selection 1-8 for number of voices

- 1-shot LFO (to zero) and looping modes for Envelopes... won't mess with the core sound, but just a little more flexibility to keep pad and SFX evolving.

- utilize the "up" motion on the left-hand box lever for something......... anything!  If it was assignable to several things, that would be extra wonderful.  We need more modulation options to tear the roof off with this incredible sound.

- envelope retrigger for poly chords (to clean up those long tails before we hit the 8-voice allocation limit), or voice-limit per patch.

- vol/balance knob becomes pan spread selector while in page 2 mode.

- Level control for X-Mod depth.

- per-preset DUO aftertouch like on PolyBrute-6... completely a software trick, no need to mod the keyboard, where the last note held down is the only one that receives the aftertouch data.  SO AWESOME, and should satisfy many who expressed disappointment this wasn't a poly-AT bed.

- latch LFO speed to the arp clock.

- LED intensity dimmer.

Can someone tell me where I can edit the velocity curve? The manual says GLOBAL Page 8, but that's for editing ARP parameters (latest OS). I am using the module and maybe they expect you to just set velocity on your external controller?

The menu item for setting the velocity curve is for the internal keyboard, so it won't be present on the module.  You'd have to change the velocity curve on your controller.

As an owner: Please remember to report your bugs and feature requests to Oberheim as a ticket. This is the only way we can be sure that the issues are read and processed.

This also helps to ensure that the topics are registered in Oberheim's ticket system, where people who may not be active in this forum and are responsible for support may have access.
