I designed a decent amount of famous patches for latest VCM++ Volume 2 soundset:
Not a lot of the specific bands you mentioned, but does include some sounds for Rush, Tears for Fears, The Cars, Prince, Michael Jackson, Genesis, Phil Collins, Radiohead, Muse, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Vangelis, Aha, Journey, Daft Punk, Europe, Kraftwerk, Madonna, Boards of Canada, M83, and some other Soundtracks or Cinematic Sounds.
I agree 100% with @LPF83 - from a sound designer perspective, it requires much more work to produce good famous song patches... because everyone has heard the originals dozens or hundreds of times and knows the tones intently -- the amount of critique that will be placed on them is probably 100x as much as any original patches. Also, as LPF83 points out, on album tracks there is often post production eq/compression/effects/doubling/mastering applied, or little sound quirks or voice variances that are very specific to certain vintage synths. I probably spend 5x as long on designing a given famous patch. It can be frustrating at times, as the post production aspects of an album tone are often very hard or impossible to replicate on the synth alone... and without them, patches often don't sound right.
Totally agree that if you hear patch demos that play along/over the actual original artist tracks, you're not really hearing a good example of the patch... The original song background, even if at a lower level, will fill in all the unique harmonic content and character, which will make it sound like the patch is much closer than it really is.
Anyways, good luck in your search, and cover band! Rev2 is definitely a super versatile instrument that can get close to a lot of classic song tones.
