I don't doubt this hits hard for many of us. And Klaus Schulze only a couple weeks back, too.

While Vangelis' score for Blade Runner will always be considered one of his greatest works, 666 by Aphrodite's Child sits very high on my list of epic albums...

Just blasted Spiral and The City (Which I think is criminally underrated) earlier.

I'm devastated.  The Carl Sagan series Cosmos and the Vangelis music used in it was a huge contributor to me getting into electronic music and synths later on in life.  That and 80s synthpop when I was in high school.

RIP Evángelos Odysséas Papathanassíou. Your music touched the hearts of many, including mine.

Sad to hear this.  I too was drawn into synths mainly by him and Tomita.    In the late 70's his music really got about as mainstream as music comprised of entirely synths is going to get.  Cosmos certainly helped.  If you have the chance , its interesting to read up on his studio work habits and ideas.  Very much an innovator artistically, as well as how equipment is used.   I recommend El Greco album - which is simply so damn good, but lesser known perhaps.
