Step Sequence Transpose via Midi

Hi

I have step sequence - (Not a Unison sound ).
- I can transpose on the keyboard by running step-seq, pressing 'Record' and pressing the keyboard notes.

This also works via MIDI, but I have to hold down 'Record' or it doesn't transpose (synth just plays the note).

Does anyone know how to Transpose over MIDI without the need to hold down a button?


* If using a Unison sound,  then Transpose works just by pressing a key and there is no need to hold the 'Record' button.
