Sequential Synths Oscillator Core

Sequential Synths Oscillator Core

I think Sequential have switched from favoring saw core oscillators to triangle core oscillators for their synth.

I wonder what's the design decision behind the choice of oscillator core.

Triangle Core

Correct me if I am wrong.

I think it would be premature to say that Sequential has "switched" to triangle core oscillators. If you haven't noticed, they change oscillators constantly.

Certainly I favor triangle cores personally, since I started using them extensively in a eurorack system. My usual system was a pair of STO oscillators, which look simple but can sound downright orchestral. Triangle cores FM beautifully together, and I think FM's one of the few areas where most people can really tell the difference.

On the other hand, saw cores are classic synthpop work horses, and I like that sound, too.

My guess is that Sequential will continue to explore different oscillators, just as they explore different filter topologies.

This.

Dave's approach is to give each product a distinct personality, so I don't expect him to firmly settle on one thing or another.

I think the resurrection of interest in vintage synths and the reissuse of CEM3340 probably had more to do with the Pr5/10 Rev 4 getting triangle core based oscillators, and it makes since that other osc vendors would offer similar.
