Hardware Box to add program buttons to Rev 2

Hardware Box to add program buttons to Rev 2
« on: August 31, 2021, 10:22:53 PM »
Hey Folks,

I love my Prophet Rev 2 for live gigs, but it lacks dedicated program buttons.  Is there a device that has a 10 key keypad with a midi out that can send program changes to my Rev 2?  Basically, I want something that can run off a 9 volt battery and fit on the top right panel of my Rev 2.  Thoughts??

P.S. If Sequential made this as an inexpensive add-on that matched the look of the rest of the synth, I would buy it.

Ooooh... that MIDI remote looks pretty cool!... great list of features.  I want one.

Any chance you have a link for a time machine capable of a quick 13yr hop to buy one? ;)

Hard to find midi controllers of that size, it seems...

But if you can live with using a touch screen instead of physical buttons, then any cheap iPhone 3,4,5 with a cheap midi interface could do the job (if you have an old iPhone lying around, if not they're cheaper than a midi controller these days). There are plenty of cheap apps. Some even allow you to program your own UI on the app as well, any way you want it.

Hey maxter,
Your old iPhone idea is very appealing - could you recommend one of the "cheap apps" you're referring to?
Much appreciated.

Well, I just had a look... and it seems some of them are 'discontinued'... with iOS updates, app developers eventually get forced to either update their app, or else it 'disappears'...

Personally, I've been using TBMS, TB Midi Stuff, for years. It's great, but not perfect... it's at v2 atm, and v3 has been delayed for YEARS... anyhow, it's still quite cheap and really neat...

Then there's Lemur... which is also great, but takes more of a programmers knowledge to get around. Lemur is basically like DOS-based programs or the like. To contrast, TBMS v2 is more like a 'Windows 3.1' version or something... what I'm saying is more complex stuff is possible with Lemur, but TBMS is more user friendly, and can be programmed solely on an iPhone/iPad. And some quite complex programming can still be done.

If you want to be in complete control of your interface and setup, I can highly recommend TBMS. Though you probably have to spend a couple of hours at least, the first time, to make your own custom interface...

thanks for the quick reply - I'll definitely take a look at TBMS, was not aware of it.
