Take 5 Firmware Update - Feature Requests

  • Display the value on screen while moving a knob. This is already implemented for the LFO amount knob while the matrix is on display. Please do this for all knobs and also display their stored value, ideally in a graphical way, so that pot mode passthru becomes much more useful helping us understand how the active patch/preset was made.
  • Please make HOLD + "Relatch On" available outside of ARP mode.
  • While holding BANK the LED of the currently selected bank number should light up instead of the selected patch number.

Thank you so much for this awesome synth!

I believe the stored pot/button value is shown in the same way as on the 6-series synths via a dot in the 7-segment display when the saved value is reached.

It does show the dot.  But we have a wonderful OLED display that could show the current value and the saved value making it easier to see what the value actually is.  The dot only tells you you're on the preset value, but it doesn't tell you where you are.

That small dot is so small and often very hard to notice when tweaking. I really like the "show" button on Rev2 and must admit that this shortcoming in Take 5 is both unneccesary and irritating.
But I haven't given up yet on an update :)

After playing live with Take5 for about a month, these are the feature requests i think would help live performance with Take 5 the most:

Display value on screen while moving a knob.
On stage, I have no chance of seeing any dot. I wish this synth would show the current value and the saved value for all inputs. I use the FX and would like to see delay times as well as filter cutoff /etc. This would allow for faster and smoother updates when I'm tweaking knobs. i like doing it by ear, but on stage it would be great to know like if I need to twist a knob 3/4 of the way to get to the saved value.

EG always sustain when switching patches.
for me, even a harsh cut of the old patch is better then the new patch playing if i switch a little soon.
my second hand is busy playing and I have to switch patches now, but a blast of the new sound will play unless i wait..
I don't see any scenario where you want the EG to ring after switching patches but if they exist maybe it could be an option

Hard / impossible to change bank with one hand.
you have to hold the bank button down and select the bank.
with one hand you cant stretch thumb and finger to reach the top banks at all. can the bank button be activated until bank is selected or repressed?

I think the design philosophy of the last update was to sacrifice firmware complexity for a doubling of program slots.  The wisdom of that choice is debatable.

I think this one might be impossible? I'm not sure that it's the EG.
On my Pro3 this kind of thing can happen, but I'm pretty sure it's the effects (delay/reverb) on the patch that is switched to. - The effects buffer has a sound in it, and it performs the new patches FX settings to that leftover "soundbyte"(?)

It would be great to have a way to scroll through presets with one of the encoders below the display:

Maybe it would be possible to enable this mode while holding the "Bank"-Button? This would be a quicker way to search for a preset (and it would be consistent with the rest of the UI - choosing the Unison Voices basically works the same way...).

I absolutely second the request to see the current parameter value on the display while moving a knob. On my Pro 3 (and most other synths) it does it, and not having it takes much of the joy out of programming the Take 5. Extra points for showing the current value in conjunction with the stored value, one above the other.

Spoke about it with a friendly member of the Sequential team at the last Superbooth, he said it should be easy to implement:

+ Different modes for voice management.
Especially I would like to see implemented:
+ Do not steal notes from keys that are still being held (on the keyboard, not the sustain pedal).

Please have a look how voice management works on Minilogue XD, this works best in most musical applications.
There is also an interesting behavior to be observed whilst holding down the sustain pedal whilst adding notes.
