Opportunity to obtain PER
« on: July 20, 2021, 08:06:33 AM »
I might have an opportunity soon of purchasing  a PER to add to my desktop and MEK "collection" and create a 6 voice instrument.

Does anyone have any tips what I need to look out for (hidden defects, testing ideas) when checking out the PER just in case?

Thanks.

The one concern you might have is volume levels.  I believe the MEK is of a much higher level than the PER, so you'll need a mixer to equal them off.

Yep I've got a small passive 4 stereo (8 mono) channel mixer, currently used to mix the MEK and the desktop.

But thanks for reminding me, I need to get a proper stereo jack to dual mono jack cable for it.

There was a member of the old forum named Robert who used that very configuration - a MEK controlling a PER.  He would be a good person to talk to.  I think this is his YouTube channel:

I use a table top PolyEvolver poly chained to the PEK.  It too has a volume discrepancy, but mixer solves that- as mentioned.  The 5 voices versus 4 was worth it for me.

Sequential/DSI Equipment: Poly Evolver Keyboard, Evolver desktop,   Pro-2, Pro-3, OB6, P-12,

My configuration will be: MEK --> Desktop Evolver --> PEK polychain

Audio output of all 3 stereo channels into a passive mixer to get the volumes level and from their into my main central studio 24 channel recording mixer.

I hope this won't introduce too much latency, but it would be very awesome to have a 6 voice Evolver setup.

Ah I meant to say:
MEK --> Evolver desktop --> PER (rack) chained to provide 6 voices, whoopsie.

I missed the proverbial boat regarding the Evolver Rack. Eventually it went for a few hundred Euro's more (1600) which is fair for the seller, but I wouldn't want to spent that amount of money on an instrument that might need maintenance at any moment.

Perhaps I will sell my Evolvers and go for the UDO Audio Super 6 after all. Good to have choices.
