Purchased patch banks but don't want to overwrite the corresponding banks...

Hi everyone, does anyone also sometimes have the 'problem' that purchased patch banks go in to a certain bank, but you already had something in there you want to keep?

How do you solve this?

Manually 'backing' up the patches I want to keep is quite tedious, is there software that works good for this and how do you approach it?

Thanks!

Soundtower, although not the best software, will save patches, banks or the entire instrument.

I just wrote up an article yesterday about manual Bank alterations to Sysex files.  It's specifically showing examples on Rev2, but same should apply for other Seq Instruments, as they all use similar Sysex headers.

The article describes how you can open a Sysex File in MIDI-Ox and do a Find & Replace operation to change the destination bank.  Step 6 has the specific details on the find/replace.

You can use this method to either just change the destination bank to another User Bank, or even overwrite factory banks, if you want to replace them with user patches.

Alternatively, with a program like SoundTower editor, you can specify a target bank within the UI.
