Why do you think the OB6 keybed cost $700 with less keys where as the keybed for the Rev 2 cost $200? Seemed weird to me when buying the OB6.
I think the OB6 has a bit of extra markup on it over the P6 to pay Tom Oberheim for his work -- which is fine with me, as I'd rather have an Oberheim that has Sequential support behind it than for Tom to try to individually support it.
But in terms of the difference between key bed costs comparing the P6 and Rev2, I only speculate. Often parts are cheaper in volume, and I'm fairly sure the Rev2 sells in higher volume than their VCO-based polys. There are also times where the number of units sold goes up dramatically if kept under a certain price point (and $1499/1999 could be magic numbers in that regard), such that Dave decided to take a reduced margin on the keyboard in order to do better overall on number of units sold? Again just throwing possibilities out there.
