LFO Syncing

LFO Syncing

I was very happy to receive my Prophet 10 this week,.

I fired it up and dialled in a great patch. It sounded so great it. inspired meet write a tune on the spot.

I created a rhythmic patch and it sounded fantastic.

On to add other instruments. Mostly percussion.

Impossible. I spent all day trying to sync it. Not going to happen.

If I could play the entire song without mistakes I might be able to slide it around in sync and work from there. But not possible to record the midi. and run from a sequencer.

I recreated the patch in my Prophet 6 but it does not sound nearly as good.  I can keep working on it but it is is kind of disappointing.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can make it work with the p10

I think it might be easier to use OSC 2 through the poly mod. But then I lose the oscillator.

It would seem to me that all rhythmic patches are pretty much useless unless you are jamming with yourself on solo synth.

I know the idea was to keep it pure to the original.By way not just keep the good stuff. They did not have aftertouch in the day. so. why not add sync it would exponentially improve the functionality.

Once again I love the synth.

Are you setting the LFO rate from the initial amount pot?
If so, try setting it to zero, and use the mod wheel instead. See if the mod wheel responds differently to midi, hopefully stay in sync.

Also, is the LFO reset when key mode is set to retrig? (non owner here)

Just like on the original, there is no LFO sync on the Prophet-5/10 Rev4.

As the LFO is analog and there is no clock input you need to look somewhere else for the solution: Your DAW. Many DAWs such Logic can set the tempo to a rhythmic source as well as slice tracks to tempo. Third part plugins such Melodyne can quantize the input to tempo as well.

Well, there is a hardware solution: A guy in England, Yorick Tech, build LFE Low Frequency Expander and there is a Prophet (6) design available:

Support for the Prophet-5/10 was also just added in firmware version 2.0 and should be rolling out around now. Since the names of patches are stored (even if not possible to display on a Prophet-5/10), the LFE can display the patch names, too.
