It is highly unlikely to incur data loss from an OS update attempt, but always better safe than sorry. Just remember, you're never going to say to yourself "Man, I wish I'd backed that up before starting..."

The OS can be updated via USB or MIDI DIN.
We do not recommend using the following MIDI interfaces for SysEx transfers as we have had multiple users experience problems with them:
Native Instruments Maschine
Digidesign Mbox/Mbox2
Digidesign 001/002

To check if the OS update was properly installed, go to the Global menu by hitting the 'Global' button. The OS version is displayed in the bottom right corner.

If your OS load countdown doesn't complete:
  • Update your MIDI drivers for your MIDI interface to the latest or last known stable version
  • Try alternate speed settings: transfer speed settings as low as 25% and as high as 100% have worked for some users when 80% did not
  • Try an alternate MIDI interface. The M-Audio MIDI Sport Uno works well here and is relatively cheap
  • In Windows with MIDI OX on Windows XP: Try doubling or quadrupling the Size setting to start, and halving/doubling the number of buffers
  • Search google and/or forums for the company that produces your MIDI interface to see if other users are having similar problems with SysEx transfers and whether there is a solution specific to your interface
  • If you are on Windows XP, try another OS or machine. Although it's not ideal, we have had less problems with Mac OSX and Windows 7. Windows XP has known issues with SysEx transfers

Main OS

  • Feature: MIDI ARP/SEQ NOTES global parameter sets arp and seq track 1 to send MIDI note data to the MIDI output
  • Feature: Sequencer destinations added for MIDI note and CC output to USB
  • Fixed Bug: Sequencer NRPN on/off message causing feedback loop in Normal/Gated Sequence Modes
  • Fixed Bug: Clicks in FX path

Main OS

  • Feature: New Sequencer Double Tap Step Edit Record Mode:
Double tap RECORD to enter this mode. The RECORD button will begin blinking. While in this mode, hitting a step button plays the synth using those step parameters.
Holding the step and moving a param changes the param on the step. So, you can quickly listen to and edit a step by hitting, holding and moving the param, then hitting the step again. Exit this mode by pressing RECORD again.
  • Feature: Tempo reference added to main program screen
  • Feature: Duophonic Mode:
With paraphonic on, setting osc 3 low freq on sets paraphonic mode to duophonic mode

  • Bug Fix: Occasional hung notes in paraphonic mode
  • Bug Fix: Small tweak/improvements to sequencer operation

New Pro3 BETA OS posted!

If you're updating from version 1.0, you will need to reset the globals following the update.

If you need step by step instructions for updating, you can use the Prophet Rev2 instructions here:

Pro3-specific instructions will go on the website with the next production release. Until then, the update procedure is nearly identical to our other instruments, with the exception of the Prophet X.
