How to sync Tempest Beats to Ableton 9.6 - Without any Lag?
« on: March 11, 2016, 12:40:03 PM »
I have been attempting to sync my Tempest to Ableton for some time now and still can't get it perfectly in sync. Always seems to be a a few milliseconds lag time that I notice with in playing in beats mode only.

-Ableton-
1. Open Preferences, select Tempest as Input and Output. Click ON & Sync on midi ports for Tempests Input & Output.
2. First open Ableton and open an external instrument.
3. Set MIDI to Tempest (Using usb).
4. Select correct midi channel and correct audio from channel.

-Tempest-
1. Open system preferences - Select Remote Pad In Channel
2. Pad to Note Mode - Beats (for beat sequence)
3. MIDI Clock Mode - Slave
4. MIDI Clock In & Out  - USB

-Apple OSX-
1. Open Audio Midi setup
2. Verified Tempest is showing up as a Midi port and tested ok with click sound.

I can't figure out why I am experiencing lag and a few milli second delay when playing live in Ableton.

Any help will be appreciated !

Have you compensate Tempest's Midi Out sync in Ableton Live Midi preferences? You have to adjust it in order to achieve a good sync.Just enable both Tempest's and Live's metronome and in Live's Midi preferences under Tempest Sync Out adjust the delay.I have mine around -40/45ms with 256 buffer size.

Thanks again

I seem to have my Tempest beats all in sync with Ableton using -64 on the 'midi clock sync delay' on the 'Midi Port - Output tempest'.

I recorded Tempest Kicks in Ableton and zoomed into the wave to get as close as possible to start point of the kick wav.

Its a good thing to be in sync !
