Finally I finished one of my "Rev2 only" ideas to share it with you. It's not much, as always, but I had a lot of fun trying to get my Rev2 playing some drums, while using the other layer for chords and melodic stuff.

This is recorded live in one single take with no cuts or overdubs.

Impressive, Jok3r.  You got a lot of music and sound out of one take.

Thanks a lot.

I hope I didn't miss use the term "single take" ... in fact there were more takes, but they have not been edited into one video. I think this was the 5th or 6th version that I recorded "in one take". Just to be clear...

It's a pretty simple piece of music, but for me there were some new experiences to make nevertheless.

1. Starting of the onboard sequencers in such a way, that the square lfo that switches between snare and base is in sync was a little bit tricky. You can see in the video, that I have key sync (and clock sync anyway) enabled and disable it directly after pressing play and before the second base note hits.  Perhaps the whole drum thing would have been easier if I used the gated sequencer for it, but I wanted to use the poly sequencer for having the chance to fire extra notes manually as I did two times in the video.

2. Having used workstations like Kronos for every multi layer setup I played in my whole life, it was pretty hard to not forget pressing the Edit B button for editing single layers during the performance. On a workstation I would map these 3-4 parameters I used to the faders on the frontpanel and everything would be fine ;-)

3. Overall it was pretty interesting to try making a bitimbral instrument playing more than two sounds in one patch, while still sounding musical "in the classic sense" and not only making noises. Well, I admit the drum part was the easiest to try this, but now I would like to try if I can come up with something else that uses drums again, but also uses more than one sound on the other layer by clever timing and clever modulation. I guess there are a lot of people out there, that have a lot of experience with that, especially when using gated sequencers, but for me it is something completely new.

All Prophet '08 - one keyboard and one module combined.  And no bass pedals.

We're still out there, the P'08ites.  We're ostracized from society due to our preferences.  We're considered Luddites and loners.  But we look just like you.  We dress in the same way, eat at your restaurants, and shop at your malls.  We live next door to you, and our children ride your busses and attend your schools.  Aside from the synthesizer hidden in out basement studio, we are entirely unrecognizable from the masses of normal people.  But we, the P'08ites, are everywhere.

This piece uses only the Prophet '08, but a keyboard and module version paired.

Sacred Synthesis,   You believe you did an all brass track via PO8 track a few years ago that I really liked.  This one is equally interesting.  I'm assuming most of this is done with just one patch, but the sound just naturally varying color when playing upper and lower registers?

That "tuba, trombones, baritone" type sound at 1:09, 2:09, 4:09 etc... it really sounds convincing.

Thanks, Soundquest.  The sound is a combination of eight oscillators of PWM per voice - four from the keyboard version and four from the module.  And this, of course, in stereo.  The patch includes a slight opening of the cut off frequency as you climb the keyboard, but the main dynamic changes are due to the use of the modulation wheel to control the filter.  The immensity is also due to the tuning of one of the oscillators down an octave.

I would love to hear someone reproduce this patch on a Rev2 sixteen-voice.  I say that as a slight skeptic that the new instrument can perfectly reach the analog rawness of the old one.

Made this patch on the PEK where the sequencer can be set up to change clock speed throughout.  That and the other modulations that are doable on the PEK, makes for a lot of variance capability.  I liked what came out of this patch so much that I decided to try my hand at doing a short single track.  Actually I used the Summit to do the string-like drone at intro and ending.  Other than that, its all that sound from just the the PEK doing it's thing.

Talk about an example of divergence in sound between the last two posts ;D   Fun to see both sides of its character.  I haven't searched  Youtube for Poly evolver lately, but years ago some Techno guys were using these and were nursing some interesting sounds in that realm.  I'm sure there's some gems out there that never make it to YT.  We need to  encourage more music posting in general on all the music threads on this forum.

This one is single-instrument (Prophet 5), single pass into Ableton, single patch, no effects, monaural. Sort of an improvisational thing, in the sense that I haven't committed it to Finale. I don't usually record things I play live, when I record at all, so it's a bit of a departure. But I enjoyed the range of the patch.

Thanks for listening! I’m still a Prophet 5 beginner, but I’m starting to come around to the idea of “what else do I need but this?”

In the beginning was the Prophet, and the Prophet was GOOD.
Very nice! And a gorgeous presentation of this gorgeous synth...

"Are you playing some Final Fantasy game?" were the words of my wife, when I listened to this with speakers on. And I must say, there really are some video-game-running-through-an-open-world-vibes to your track. I enjoyed every second of it.

Thank you for the kind words and for giving it a spin! I've recently been writing a lot of music for my sons' mobile game. This isn't part of that project, but I'm not surprised that video game music is where my head is right now.
