USB noise

USB noise
« on: July 09, 2019, 04:48:23 PM »
Hi,

I don't know why but somehow when i plug the USB cable from the Rev2 in the Mac, a lot of noise is generated on my audio bus. It's kind a constant noise, very perceptible.

The noise keeps sounding even if i turn the Rev2 off. It only goes away when i unplug the USB cable from the Rev2.

Is there a way to avoid  this ?

It may be that you are not using a shielded USB cable... it's most likely due to some ground-loop or something... I have a REV2 connected via USB directly into my Windows PC, and i get absolutely no noise at all...

I had similar issues. I couldn’t fix then on the USB side but the sound card input being balanced I used TRS. Not the best solution though since I now have a 6dB attenuation but the noise is gone.

I have posted info on isolating and fixing ground loops here:

There should be plenty in there to find a solution.

I also had a similar problem when I first got a MacBook Pro connected to my Kronos.

Turns out it was the power brick.  I unplugged it from the laptop and the buzzing sound went away.
