As the title states im new to drum machines.  This is a bit too advanced for me currently but i really enjoyed all the demonstrations ive seen and heard.

What tips and advice for learning the art of making decent drum beats do people have?

Tempest is not your typical drum machine is a lot more than that..It’s very deep and needs some special handling..The above ^ threads will save you from lots of frustration and guide you to the point ;)

Tempest was my first and now, only drum machine. Patience is key, and just get used to discovering things by accident. After a few years with the tempest, it still surprises me, but has become a comfortable device that hasnt an equal....yet. Accept its limitations and bask in what it excells at. For me, its just great knowing i can flip a power switch, don some headphones and craft beats with melodies on one device. Sadly, the pad layout has gotten me to HATE the 4x4 layout most use. Just play play play, and dont make the msitake of thinking that something else will replace it. This is my second tempest, as I was an idiot and thought something new may be better. The joy of the tempest is that you dont need to understand much of what it does, to still craft a beat and get some joy. DOnt give up, just plow along and realize the beats you are stumbling to make, have character and eventually will grow on you. The beauty and the pain of the tempest is that it just does not quite sound like anything else.
