Rev2 Experimental Patch Set

Rev2 Experimental Patch Set
« on: February 10, 2019, 02:35:36 PM »
Since November I've been working on developing a collection of experimental patches for the Sequential Prophet Rev2. This was a ton of work, partially because I developed a custom Max for Live device specifically to explore more experimental soundscapes. However, I am quite happy with the results and have made the patches available for purchase on AudioCookbook.org:

You can also read about how I developed these in the link above. I've also put a playlist on SoundCloud with recordings of all 128 patches here:

Let me know what you think. I have been going for mostly special effects and experimental sounds, but I did include a few more conventional patches in there as well. Thanks!

Cool stuff, like the bell sounds.

I think the Rev2 is overlooked for the great digital sounding vibes it can produce with audiomod and crreative use of the modulations on the digital effects.

Tell me about this m4l device :D

The M4L Device is the third in a series of MIDI hardware patch "degrading" devices I have developed. The first one I made was for the Yamaha TX81Z (see video below). It's on GitHub if you want to check it out (https://github.com/jkeston/TX81Z-Patch-Degrader/). The next one I made was for the PreenFM2. It was much deeper and fueled a multichannel performance at the ISSTA conference (https://audiocookbook.org/issta-2018-and-ableton-10-nrpn-morphing/).

So, naturally I built a "degrader" for the REV2 after buying one (https://audiocookbook.org/experimental-sound-set-for-the-prophet-rev2/). The device morphs, interpolates, and/or randomizes specified parameters on the synth based on time intervals that can be arbitrary or synced with Live. It allows me to discover and tweak experimental soundscapes at will.

Developing the software took over a month, but I was able to get some excellent features packed into it. For example, there are four ways to initialize new patches: init 0s (I haven't found a purpose for this... yet), init pad, init perc(ussion), and init random. The degrading process changes parameter values over time (clocked or in milliseconds) to new values.

I usually keep playing the keyboard while the "degrade" process continues and then interrupt it (there's a mappable button for that) when I hear something interesting. It's also designed to enable / disable specific parameters or sets of parameters in the process. For example, if I want to leave the envelopes alone, I can still morph everything else. I've attached a screenshot of the device to give you a better idea. Also, here's a few of my favorites from the set that began with this process:

BTW: I made a video that demos the M4L device as well as some of the sounds. Also, the latest version of the patch bank has been updated with four sysex files that correspond to the four user banks on the Prophet REV2. This means you can now choose which bank to load the patches into without having to use a librarian to do so.
