Hello guys and gals,
I'm making some videos to share what I've learned about synthesis on the Prophet 12.
Let me know what you think, if you have questions, or if you have a better way of doing something on my vids.
 Cheers!

Nice. Thank you.
Since you're so solicitous  :) I was thinking of asking you to do something on (tuned) feedback, when another current thread reminded me.
Do you use that?
If so, would be interested in your thoughts.

Sure thing. I'll explore a feedback based patch on the next episode.
 I appreciate the interest!

Here's an episode using tuned feedback to make a patch.
There are many more subtle ways to use tuned feedback within a sound, or in it's own layer. 5his patch uses it for the main body of the sound in all its glory.
Let me know if you have any ideas that I missed, and what parts of the p12 you want to explore with me next.
I appreciate the interest and look forward to learning more about this synth with you all together.
 Cheers.

Nice patches and chord progressions.  They're worthy of being developed into full compositions.

Fantastic video! Would love to see you do an episode about the wavetables in the P12. I don’t think they get enough mention.

Hey Lobo
Yes! I was thinking about wave tables as well. I've made quite a few sounds with them. Maybe I'll do an evolving wave table arp sound next.
 Thanks!

Hello,
nice video series! This synth deserve that.
I have some questions:
- Why you do not use the slope on each osc to add randomness instead of randomizing the osc frequency?
- Is there a way to activate velocity  on all osc without doing it manually every time for every osc in the matrix?

If i can suggest an improvement for your videos i will suggest to ad a camera on the lcd screen so the viewers can follow what is going on on it. I did a setup to make video with OBS and Soundtower standalone to record the virtual lcd display but lack of time i didnt edit and upload any of the videos....
I watch your video with headphones and sometimes it would be better to add a little reverb to avoid the 0 release at the end of the sound that hurts ears. (just a suggestion).

Greetings and i ll wait for more videos :)

Hey Mechamilk,
- I do use slop on the oscillators when I'm trying to sound analog. I ALSO use random on note value to add even more controled unpredictability. Different, but equally valuable, ways to use frequency randomization to emulate analog circuits.
-The only "hard wired" destinations for velocity on the synth are on the envelopes. If you want to affect anything other than envelope amount with velocity, you pretty much need to use the mod matrix as far as I can tell.

I appreciate the suggestions!  I was thinking about the second camera. I actually set one up on the last video but it crapped out it me before I was done filming; i used a DSLR with limited recording time. I'll try with another camera on the next one.
As far as reverb: I dont want to add anything to the signal chain that will alter how the synth actually sounds. I would consider reverb a sound design element, and adding it would take away from the analysis of the raw sound of the Prophet 12 itself IMO.

I really appreciate your interest and will have another video up soon.
 Cheers!

Thank you so much! I’ve waited years to see a video like that for the P12. Ironic that it happens when it’s being discontinued. Still...it makes my mouth water with what might be its successor.

Thanks for saying so Lobo.

I hope that Dave and Co. do follow up with something in the same vein of synthesis architecture. Up until now I feel the P12 is still one of a kind.
The only other all-in-one synthesizer on the mainstream market that gets me excited right now is the Waldorf Quantum. Prophet X does sound fantastic, but from a sound designing perspective doesnt really bring much new to the table. I feel the X is a move towards more following the market as opposed to leading the market as Dave has done in the past.
 Obviously just my opinion.
