It's done! ... almost 7 months of hard work and a lot of insight into sound design later, my first bank has been released for purchase :)

I hope you will enjoy these sounds. There are 128 of them, and I made them primarily for my own needs, but I'm certain that some of the sounds will be of use to others. The sounds are mainly targeted toward Ambient and Fantasy music, but other experimental types of electronic music might also be likely candidates for these sounds. So don't come afterwards and ask where all the typical "four on the floor" type sounds are, because they are not! ;)

The sounds have been properly categorized, and all program names have a three character prefix, that designate the category they belong to. They are all sorted alphabetically, both in category and names, all for ease of use.

There will be an installation READ_ME.txt file that comes with the bank that tells you about the bank in more detail. Also, there will be provided 8 files in total, each one writing the sounds to a different bank (including all four factory banks, if one should want those erased). The READ_ME.txt file also include a full list of all the programs, and an explanation of all the sound categories.

An audio demo is planned for later, with a video to go along with it (YouTube), but if you are not familiar with how the programs sound, then look take a look in my other thread "The REV2 is a deep and capable synth".. .there are loads of demos in that thread that you can listen to, until my video demo is up.

After checking out PayPal for fees and stuff, the final price for the bank will be 40 US dollar, or 35 EURO... I can only accept payment via PayPal, but I believe that should not be a problem :)

If you are interested in buying the soundbank, just write me a Private Message her eon the forum, giving me your email address, and I will request a payment to you... and when the payment has been received, I'll send the bank to you via the same email address. That is as easy as it gets :)

Please!, when you pay for the sound bank, could you please write the email address you want the bank sent to, in the comment field when you pay? This makes it a lot easier for me to keep track of what email I should send the soundbank file to  :)

If you have any questions regarding the bank, just write them here in this thread and I'll see what I can do.

---------------------
Here is a 1:28 hour long demo of all the sounds... it's 100% REV2, no external processing:
http://razmo.ziphoid.com/Realms_of_Fantasy_Demo.mp3
---------------------

That's about it... now it's time to start looking deeply into the Tempest :)

Order placed!

This is the first time I have purchased a soundbank.  I have installed a few freebies over the years including some good ones released by manufacturers.  But I was never inspired to purchase one as I prefer to just create my own patches.

I have been following this thread for months and have really enjoyed watching the process of the patch creation.

Invoice requested!  I look forward to playing these creations on my own Rev2!

Please remember, that the Foot Pedal is heavily used for modulation in practically ALL my programs. This is important to notice because that is when the programs really come to life... so if you do not have a Foot Pedal, I strongly advice you to get one if you purchase this bank, or have some other means to send Foot Pedal CCs to your REV2 via an external controller or DAW (It's CC#04).

The reason I use it so much is that many of the programs are meant to be played with two hands... so it's hard to reach for the Mod Wheel for modulation... using a Foot Pedal instead gives you total freedom to play and modulate at the same time.

Mod Wheel and Foot Pedal is used on almost every program... sometimes Mod Wheel and Foot Pedal modulate the same thing, in other situations they modulate two different things... just experiment away... AfterTouch if used, is ONLY introducing vibrato... I do not like After Touch that much, and usually only for vibrato which can be effective on some sounds.

Also note: if a program do not seem to make a sound (especially in the SFX category), it's because you need to move either Foot Pedal or Mod Wheel for the sound to set in... this was done to allow you to do live fade ins and outs of these SFX sounds, and also because these sounds gradually increase the VCA mod destination parameter... if not done that way, those sounds would simply drone endlessly.

ALso remember; these programs use the FX HEAVILY!!! ... I took use of all the juice of the REV2 to create these to sound as ambient and stereo as possible right out of the box... I actually finetuned every program on headphones to make sure the stereo perspective was satisfactory... and i can easily say, that if you do ambient music, you should be able to use the sounds together right out of the box without much need for external FX... still, you can benefit from using a really high quality reverb on some presets. But I created all programs initially without FX... to sound as good as possible without FX... so if you prefer other FX, you can easily just switch them off on your REV2... either by disabling the FX ON/OFF of course, or also by switching off Layer B completely... Layer B is almost always used as an "add on" for some special FX.

Also don't forget to tweak the knobs... you can make great changes to a sound by fiddling with the envelope times or the cutoff/resonance.

An a small errata for the program listing in the READ_ME file of my bank:

The program listing was an older one... it does not fit anymore (that's what happens when you hurry too much) ... the one supplied in this thread is the correct listing of the programs.

EDIT: I changed the file to fit the right program list... so this post is only relevant for the first two purchasers who accidentally got the wrong program listing.

For some reason I'm unable to edit my initial post in this thread, so if an admin reads this and can do something about it, so I can add this to the top, I'd be really happy.

For anyone who do not want to sift thru my entire other thread to find the demos, I have provided a link list for easy listening :) Just remember that the final bank has undergone lots of tweaking of the sounds in these links... some is not there, other have gone and on some links there are a bit of external reverb added. this list is just for easy reference until I've crated a final full length YouTube demo video.

Worth every penny.
I've just finished checking all the sounds and it's really good.
Nice work Razmo.
Right now, I'm exhausted and I will plunge deeper into the depth of your presets tomorrow night.
Cheers.

Really nice job Razmo! Fantastic sounds, great use of motion. DSI should hire you to do a bunch of presets for them.

I know Elektron resells sound packs for their instruments, you might consider giving their Digitone or A4 a shot too.

Still personally on the fence as to whether or not this genre of sound will suit what I want to do, so I'll hold off for a bit on purchasing this, but I wanted to thank you for pushing the boundaries of what the Rev2 can do and simultaneously creating a set of presets that suit an oft-forgotten style of synth usage these days. Futuristic yet retrospective at the same time, there's a real orchestral quality to your sounds. I'm glad you actually play them in the demos too, not just hold some notes down. Gives a real sense of what they're for and how you envisioned utilizing them.
Prophet 6 keyboard, Rev2-16, Prophet 12 Keyboard, Nords, etc...

Thanks for the compliments :) really appreciated... well... DSI may just give me a PM, I'd be ready for that of course  ;D ... but the sounds was made in a labor of love... because I could not find many such sounds out there, either free or commercial... I also love pushing my synths to the limit... but also I learned a lot over those 7 months... this was also why i needed to touch up the sounds in the end because the first ones i made, carried a mark of me not being as good at it as I were when I reached the end of the 7 months...

As to other synths... my next project is actually the TEMPEST, but I have other synths in my mind for the future, some of which will most likely be; PEAK, DeepMind12, Prophet 12, Prophet X, Quantum... even MOOG ONE if I ever get the cash to pay for one :D ... I enjoy analog/hybrid synths the most, and those with deep engines to play with as you can see from the list... but who knows... others may come in as well :)

NOTICE!!!

Anyone, who are experiencing that my programs have layer B on, but the sound from it does not play, PLEASE write about it in this thread! ... one user reported this, and what he experience is what others are experiencing in another thread I've read... it might be that it's because you are changing presets via MIDI Program Change commands... try to change programs on the REV2 itself without using MIDI (no MIDI echo from your DAW etc.)

VERY IMPORTANT NOTE!

It has come to my attention, that when my bank is loaded into the REV2, for some reason all programs with layer B on, has no sound coming from layer B at all.

I tried to reload the bank into my REV2, and now i hear that this is certainly the case. All programs except for the very first "Atlantis Rising" that also use layer B, has no sound coming from layer B.

I still have the whole bank in my REV2 as well, where it sound absolutely correct, so there is a bug present on REV2, where loading of a bank via SysEx into it's memory, make strange things with sounds using Layer B.

I think I have narrowed the bug down now, and I asume it's a problem with the sound versioning of the SysEx files, a process that goes on in the background and that the user normaly do not see happening.

Currently the sound version is at version 3... but there are other versions, and if you splice layers on the REV2 from different programs, you will get programs that has layers that was made on different sound versions... i think that this is where the REV2 has a serious bug.

Please! .. .anyone who bought my bank, could you please try to see if the programs with layer B on, actually has a sound coming from layer B? ... this is HUGELY IMPORTANT because otherwise you're not hearing my programs like they should at all! ... a lot of the icing on top comes from the use of layer B.

And don't worry... it's not the bank file that is corrupt, it's the versioning code in the REV2 that has a serious reading bug or the like... and if it shows anyway that your bank is faulty, then I still have the original sound here working fine, and we will figure out a way for you to get a working one... unfortunately it's just not possible until Sequential has fixed this bug because the bug is in the code... not the SysEx file.

Oh boy... if you have heard all those sounds without layer B when active, then you have missed about 50% of the experience!  :-\

I can say, that I just made a thorough analysis of my "Realms of Fantasy" banks that i sent to all you that bought it... there is nothing wrong with the 8 files... I tested them all by loading them with my editor, and checking the programs that use layer B... everything works fine from these banks when my editor is browsing the programs and sending them directly to the edit buffer of REV2 one at a time.

Something happens when they are sent BACK to the REV2 and stored in a memory location. If this is the case with all banks I do not know... it may be that bank 1 would work, but other banks might get scrambled on their way into the REV2.... this could be why I have only had ONE report from a buyer with this... he loaded the bank into User bank 4, and when i do the same, the B layers are scrambled completely.

I'll do some more testing, but you can remain certain, that the bank files i sent you are OK! ... I loaded precisely the bank file for User Bank 4 into my editor and browsed and checked the presets... everything is fine when I do that (sending the sounds to the edit buffer directly, not a memory location)... but if I dump that same bank file directly to User Bank 4, then all B layers are scrambled.

So the bug is in the SysEx dump INTO the REV2, or when the REV2 reads from it's memory program slots into the edit buffer... I'm about to test which is the case now.

So there is no need for me to send you any new bank files... you will simply have to wait until Sequential have fied this bug to get the B layers working... there is nothing I can do about this currently...

UPDATE:

To anyone who may have experienced that any program in my bank does not give any sound from layer B on programs that has it active: Please send the bank to your REV2 again, using MIDI OX (just the standard installation) ... go into "Actions/Send/SysEx File" and send the bank file from there.

The reason some may experience that layer B is not working is because the software you used to send the bank to your REV2 is sending all the single program SysEx messages in the bank file in one big burst without any delay in between... the REV2 cannot follow up and clogs, resulting in layer B data being scrambled... the built in delay between sends in MIDI OX will make certain that the REV2 has enough time to receive a message, process it and save it to internal flash, before the next message comes in. This is especially important if you use USB to do this as this is REALLY fast!

I'm not fully certain if I should consider this a bug in the REV2, but it certainly has caught some users offguard believing that there IS a bug with Layer B because of this... I have contact about this with support, so I'll just have to wait and see what their response is.

In all cases; your bank files I sent you are fine... just send them slow ;)

The READ_ME.txt file in my soundbank has now been updated to include how to use MIDI OX to send the file to the REV2. Anyone buying from now on will get that update... anyone who already purchased and want the revised archive file can just PM me, and I'll send it to you :)

Maybe the use of the 5 pins DIN over USB would garantee you have the right speed in all cases?
