Hello,

I still ask my dumb question...  !!

What's the "breath" in the mod source !

Please !!!!

It's a source for a "Breath Controller" like the ones Yamaha used to make (BC-3)... but these need special hardware to connect, and cannot be connected directly to the Prophet X (it does not have a breath controller jack on it).

But the control data for breath also has a MIDI CC number associated with it... and that is MIDI CC#02 ... that means, that if the X recieves a CC#02 on the MIDI input, that value will be what is reflected in the "Breath" modulation source in the mod matrix.

You can use this if you use your X with a MIDI controller that can send CC#02 to the X, or if your DAW can send CC#02... in other words, CC#02 can be used for any MIDI control, not just a breath controller... for example, if you connected a MIDI controller to the X MIDI input, and set up a slider or a knob on it to send CC#02, you could set up the mod source "Breath" in the mod matrix, and control the destination with that knob/fader (or whatever MIDI controller you have set it up for).

Put in another way; the "breath" source is completely useless in the X, unless you have another device sending it CC#02 via MIDI, because the X has no way of creating that modulation on it's own... it has no physical control for it... it might be, that you in global menu can set up the Foot Pedal input to send to CC#02... i think this is possible on the REV2, so it probably is on the X as well... but there really is no logic in doing that because then you could as well use the Foot Pedal set to CC#04 (which is the standard CC for a foot pedal) and use the mod matrix source "Foot"... it will give the same result.

So how could CC#02 (breath) be of any use? ... if you control your X from a DAW sequencer for example, and you'd like to automate a parameter from a sequencer track, then "breath" would probably be the way to do it... you create a simple automation lane in your sequencer, that send the automation data to CC#02... when the X receive this, that automation value will be represented in the mod matrix source "breath", where it's up to you to decide what the destination will be... a handy way of controlling a parameter from your sequencer... this can be done with other CC#'s as well... Expression CC#11, FootPedal CC#04, BreathControl CC#02... the X receives a lot more CC numbers that could also be controlled this way, just look in the manual appendix...
