Hello everyone!
I've been thinking about upgrading my live setup (Tempest controlling a Mopho X4) with a sampler. I've never owned one and I want to know if any of the options I am looking at is corresponding with my needs.
My Tempest holds complex projects: there are moments when I have to push the STOP button and hit PLAY (risky!), some beats have weird scales and lengths which are (as far as I am concerned) not compatible with some of the simpler sampler models out there. And within a project I switch between beats all the time. And some beats are stuffed up so I can't use the Mopho because I'm out of voices on the Tempest. Now what do I need?
1) To trigger certain SOUNDS (and/or PATTERNS) in a sampler in time with the Tempest;
2) In certain situations (within a project) I would like to trigger DIFFERENT sounds or patterns in a sampler with a different beat coming from the Tempest;
3) To let the sampler control the Mopho to free up Tempest's voices and to be able to play the Mopho polyphonically;
4) To be able to trigger samples manually by just hitting the buttons (that would be simple I guess).
As far as I am concerned the only option in my case is to control the sampler via the Tempest. Or am I wrong? If I'm wrong, then how does the workflow look when the sampler is controlling the Tempest? Can I hit PLAY on the sampler and trigger the PLAY button on the Tempest? If this is possible then wouldn't it be a hassle to switch scenes/beats both on the sampler AND on the Tempest? And sometimes during like a second before stopping the sequence and hitting PLAY again! Phew.
I know the Octatrack is a very good device but it is expensive for me. So I am looking at Digitakt (1st candidate) or Korg Electribe Sampler or Roland 404. The sampler of course has to be able to record sounds or import them via memory card / USB.
It's a lot of questioning but I know little about MIDI stuff so any help is much appreciated!
Thank you.
P.S. I certainly wouldn't want to use a laptop
